CRASH WHEN CLOSING THE SIMULATOR

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a strange problem as of lately:

Whenever I end a flight and then wait for the display so I can close the simulator, I get the message on top "Flight Simulator not responding". The message appears as soon as I press the "X" to close the simulator. Most of the time I also get a  window "a error has caused the simulator to stop working and it must be shut down".

After this occurs, I can not restart the simulator, but must reboot the computer and then I can start the simulator again. There are also many .mdmp files generated in the FSX root directory. I am not sure if files can be attached to forum posts, but I could make them available if someone could interpret them. These are the errors I receive after I try to restart the simulator:

I hope someone has seen a similar problem and can shed some light on the issue. It is very annoying, since I always have to wait for the reboot to occur.

Thanks for help

Hi,

I have done some more reading on different forums and came across a thread that mentioned the MS "Event Viewer". So I checked and found the following errors:

I disabled UT2 via the exe.xml, however it has no effect on my FSX-SE closing crash issue. EZdok is already disabled in the exe.xml (statement <disabled>true</disabled>, so it must load some other way. I will need to find out so I can just disable it, rather than uninstall.

Again, if anyone has suggestions, I would certainly appreciate it

Thanks

Hi,

I believe I found the problem:

There are 3 services (seen in Task Manger: https://www.flickr.com/photos/141330124@N05/shares/E64Y09) which are NOT closing after I close the simulator:

1. Steam Client Bootstrapper

2. Steam Client Service

3. Steam Client Web Helper

2 and 3  can NOT be closed. However if I highlight "Steam Client Booststrapper" and click on "End Task" All services close. After that I can restart FSX_SE w/o rebooting the PC.

So I know what the cause is, but I don't know how to fix it. I also contacted "Steam Support", however if someone experienced a similar problem, would be great to hear about it.

Thanks

I think shutting down FSX by clicking on the "X" is not normal.  Try Ctrl+C.  I would also go into your General Settings and enable "Prompt on Exit".  I hate the nag but it should cause FSX to shutdown normally.  When you click on the "X", you are shutting down FSX immediately leaving some add-ons or other programs shocked as they are still running.

Best regards,

Jim
