February 13, 200620 yr As you guys might not know aeu8 will hopefully come out on wednesday 2/15/06. I can not wait. It is looking so good. Chris makes such nice textures and hopfully they will be stutter free. Again can not wait!!!Check pics herehttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchherehttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchand herehttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchAlexhttp://fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
February 13, 200620 yr >and hopfully will be stutter free. I doubt it, there is always a price to pay. I am not saying they don't look great, they do. But in my experience they **always** cause too much stutter in metropolitan areas where there are many airports around. The problem with such upgrade is that it gets installed at many airports even those you don't intend to land at. I kind of like the idea of having only the enhanced detail at the airport which is my actual destination. When AEU will be airport-specific I will get very interested.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg Michael J.
February 13, 200620 yr Is there a way to make it airport specific???Alexhttp://fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
February 14, 200620 yr >Is there a way to make it airport specific???As far as I know the answer is NO. If someone knows otherwise please let us know.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg Michael J.
February 14, 200620 yr Couldn't you get the scenry files for that airport and use the textures for aeu8 and add it as addon scenery.Alexhttp://fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
February 14, 200620 yr I don't think it is that easy. There are many pieces that default airports share like runway textures, etc. I don't think it is impossible but ceratinly I would not know how to turn a default airport into a non-default airport. If Chris could provide necessary steps and it is relatively easy to do I would do it. February 14, 200620 yr Ill ask chris.http://fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
February 14, 200620 yr You could make textures airport specific, but you would have to build all the buildings and assign the textures yourself for each airport. Might as well just do each airport for real.FS ignores the Small/Medium/LargeAirport.bmp references in local texture directories and only reads them from the main Texture directory (I've tested it). Perhaps whatever is in Texture overrides files in the local directory? I don't believe this is the case, that would be silly. MS chose to hardcode the path for these textures. Certainly, it might be better if they looked in the local directory first and used whatever it found there. Then again, I'm imagining that would actually decrease performance as it would be loading all kinds of textures instead of just reading from a single texture and using it over and over. Then again, it would be nice if they made a 256 size texture by default in the main texture directory, and then we could use a 1024 texture in only those airports we want it. So I think looking locally could help things in the long run. Really, I'd rather have the choice to have a local copy or not.Regarding performance, I understand his artistic preference, but I think it would be in Chris's best interest to release a reduced size texture set as well. But wadaya want for nuttin'?Thank you Chris for all the work you have put into this project.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-) Tom Perry
February 14, 200620 yr Both AE6 and 7 were great and I didn't notice any FPS hits on my system. I've been extremely happy with everything Chris has created.I'm looking forward to AE8, Chris, and I thank you for your hard work.Bob
