I don't know but I wonder if the maintenance cost wouldn't be substantially more. Very interesting question.

maybe the fuel consumption is the same, the type of fuel isn't. AVGAS is expensive! Even Everts started to use jets a few years ago due to high costs. They only uses the six because there is no other option. No other plane with that amount of payload can land on the short gravel strips like Everts uses.

It depends on the parts availability and the market you're serving.

As RonnieDuck mentions, if you're serving an area which can't be served in the same manner with another type of aircraft, it would seem that the DC-6 can be profitable. 

 

I think the DC-6 could be substituted with a twin otter in many cases more profitably though.
