Anyone tried Walk and Follow for Wing Views in the PMDG B744?

Adding a virtual cabin to the mix changes the discussion--we were talking just about wing views. If you include a virtual cabin, even if it isn't in view, you're talking about a ton of textures that the system is trying to have at the ready. Not being familiar with the PMDG 737, I also don't know if there's any functionality in the virtual cabin that may be using resources, such as special animation or some type of gauge functionality. Wing views alone--they don't have that great a hit and most aircraft I have show no measurable hit on performance--and a P3/800 is going to know it before any other PC will.Do you know of a model, that has 2 VC wiews, 1 with VC Flight Deck only, the other with VC Flight deck and wing view (No Passenger cabin)? I haven't found any payware, or freeware. That is the only way to prove this one way or the other. What you say, is mostly true for an average scenery area, add to that all the other bells and whistles we can't fly without, high density traffic like UT, high detailed weather and clouds, densely populated scenery areas like New York etc... and every little bit counts. That is why I did my test in New York, as it demonstrates the issue more clearly. If you do know of a model as stated, let me know, and I'll retest it on my system. Thanks

Thanks

The LDS 767 doesn't offer a virtual cabin but has an option for VC only and one for a VC plus wingviews - however this second option does add VC reflections as well.Bruceb

If you want to check it out John, the wingviews in this video were ALL made with Walk and Follow. (beta model, VC wingviews hadn't been added yet)http://x-plane.org/home/ukguybry/346demo.wmvI've used AC2004 and W&F together and haven't had any problems between them or FS. Though I did disable the W&F internal view module. (2 modules. One to manipulate the external and one the internal like Active Camera)So I just use W&F for external work and AC2004 for internal. The only problem I've had with W&F is I have to unplug my USB CH Pro rudder pedals otherwise the view just rotates 360 degrees throught the vertical constantly. In the same way I have to disable the yoke if I want to use Slew in FS itself.

I forgot this could be set in the configurator!! Going>to test now.Well here, are the results! Using the same test criteria I used before for the LDS 767, VC without wing views = 15-high 17's FPS, with Wing views 14 to mid 16's. A relatively small impact as opposed to the test with the PMDG 737 with the Virtual cabin + wing views. I also tested the PMDG 744 which only has the virtual cabin, and interestingly also got between 14-16's FPS. So it looks like the developers may be right. You can have one or the other but not both!! For some reason though they seem to think (Except for LDS) a VC cabin is more important then wing views. Judging by Capt Sim's poll on the subject, while not as many that prefer wing views, many still preferred a V Cabin! Go fiqure!!

Thanks

Very impressive video!Maybe I can trade some information with you. I just purchased W&F last night, and also noted the rotations around the a/c (although I did not know that it was related to rudder pedals). I looked at their forum and found the following fix which worked for me:In ....FS9DBSWalk and Follow.ini, change:IgnorePOV=0 toIgnorePOV=1I hope that this works for you too.Now one for you- from your video you have obviously mastered the W&F add-on. What I did was the press the "/" key to invoke the "Follow" mode, and found that I could use the navigation keys to move around. However, I could never seem to be able to save "CTRL-Shift-1-0", then retreive the same view "ALT-Shift-1-0" later. I had trouble ever returning to a view that I thought that I had saved. Would you be able to tell me if there's something else that I need to do, or perhaps just a simple sequence of keys and/or mouse cmmands that you used? I'm trying to get the wing view of the PMDG B744. I also noted that some of the B744 wing that's close up to the point of view sometimes seems to disappear, although I have yet to figure out what causes this. Thanks for any help,Bruce.

I don't think I can really help you there. I never save any kind of presets. I just press the / or * key as required for either mode and manipulate the camera where I want it using the numberic keys and mouse. I never bother to save that view as I only tend to really use AC2004 or W&F when taking screenshots or making videos which are generally done from replay data, so I can just change the angle as desired and go through the whole sequence again. As for parts disappearing, that's just what happens with the external that way. Simple bleedthrough. You just have to adjust the camera angle to hide it.
