Airac Cycle

Recommended Posts

Forgive me for this question.  I'm sure it has already been answered many times but wanted to be sure.  Seems to me I've read on this forum that when our 744 was installed the new Airac cycle(February) should have been installed into the fmc of all previously installed PMDG aircraft also.  In my case I already had the 736,7,8,9, and the 772,773.  I read up on the steps to update this cycle in the Avsim forums this morning.

So basically I have to delete the PMDG Navdata folders, uninstall, and reinstall the 744 selecting the repair option???  This should update the Navdata folders (Airac cycle) for all my PMDG jets?

A little confused, any help would be appreciated.

You update NavData by purchasing a navigraph subscription or any other company that provides NavData. It might be possible to copy and paste the Ariac from the 747 into the 777 and 737 but I've personally never done it before.

Thanks Milton.  I am aware that to update to current cycle you need a Navigraph subscription.  I'm talking about the current cycle (at the time) that was supplied with the 744 download(February 2017).

All PMDG products use the same navdata and sidstar folders. I do not understand your question or your problem.

Yes exactly.  My 737, 777, and 747 all have the Airac cyle 1309 from August/September 2013.  These folders were not overwritten when I installed the 747 in February.  They should all have that Airac cycle (1702).

I want to update the Navdata folders to Cycle 1702.  I suppose just by uninstalling the 747, deleting the Navdata folders and reinstalling the 747, this should be accomplished.  Am I correct?

Not quite. The installer won't touch the 777 or the 737 if I'm not mistaken.

The 747 installer won't overwrite other product's files. The 747 installer will only touch 747 files, same for the 777 or the 737. You'll have to go through Navigraph in order to update your Ariac.

All PMDG products (737, 747 and 777), use exactly same AIRAC files located in /PMDG/NAVDATA folder in your main sim folder. If you update one, you update them all. Of the three products, the new 747-400 has the latest version, so you should install that one last

They will indeed. Three updates for the price of one!

The installer won't touch the navigation data if it sees a set already there, so move it to a temporary location, then either run a repair of the 747 or uninstall and then re-install. Once you confirm that the new navigation data works, you can go ahead and delete the old one. It won't touch existing navigation data in the event that somebody wants to keep the old one for some reason, say for instance, somebody decided to add some navigation data for Kai Tak (only example I can think of since people have done it), then the installer won't overwrite it.
