Anyone ordered from MAAM before?

Featured Replies

I ordered their DC-3 a couple of weeks ago and other than the confirmation and being charged, I have not received a response to my email or the cd. Anyone who has ordered from Mid Atlantic can tell me how long it took or if I shouldnt worry or start calling them.

You should have no problems. The Mid Atlantic Air Museum is a real museum in Reading PA. Here is a link to their web site. You can call them on the phone.http://www.maam.org/flightsim/info/maamsim.htm

Yeah I checked them out and read all the glowing reviews.Sometimes I find out after the fact you have to rattle the cage to get things moving. I will hold off and wait a few more days. Thanks

When I ordered the DC3 it took 3-4 weeks to get here. They are an all volunteer group and, as such, things take a while to get done. It may even be that they are out of CD's and need to get another batch burned (at one time Bill Rambow burned them all himself - maybe he still does). But, hang in there as it's well worth the wait.Doug

Worth a look around, you can get it from other places as well, I bought mine from RCSimulations here in the UK, it came within a couple of days and I've never regretted it. That is a great plane and although simple enough to fly you still have to follow procedures to start her up. If you have buttons set up for the starters you can even do it from outside and watch the flames come from the exhaust.

Hi, I have both the B-25 and the DC-3. They did take a while to get here and in fact the B-25 never did arrive and they sent me another CD, saying to keep the other one if it turned up, which I thought was pretty straight arrow. I like them, and so much the better when the money for the CDs goes towards saving the airplanes. Definitely hang in there!Andy.ps Call them if you like as they're nice people!

I was greeted this morning with a email from them and should be getting it anytime. I am spoiled like most with downloading and getting it NOW but not only does the plane to be really well done but its a worthy cause. My hanger is very full and I have more than enough to keep me busy so I was not really in a hurry. Just get a little nervous now and then when I send money in the virtual world.

As others have said, we have our own forum, Jimjam, so feel free to post any queries over there. Your disk is on its way, in any case.As for downloads ... the products are just too big, it's not that we haven't, er ... "joined the internet generation" }( . Bear in mind that when you order the R4D today, you get subsequent freeware add-ons bundled with it, with all their texture sets. The floatie, the C-47s, etc. etc. And the reason we didn't go for download in the first place was the original size anyway, because of the videos and such like.Maybe one day, now that most simmers are getting onto broadband. If we can afford the bandwidth! This is voluntary stuff, remember, not payware as such. And yes, Bill does still burn the disks, one by one.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Mark,I have the B-25 because I managed to buy a download version (long time ago). I would love to buy the DC-3 as well, but would very much prefer download. I don't care how big the file is, but would be fine without the videos.Have you ever considered Simmarket or Flight1 Wrapper. I'm sure you would sell a lot, it is rated very high wherever you read about it ...Eagle

EagleEvery time you go that route, you lose out badly. That's why we prefer to sell direct so that the museum benefits fully; people buying our product through third parties pay the same, but we only see half of the return! We just don't do that any more.Ever wondered why you don't see CH Products in the stores? Same reason ... they're too small to give half their profit away ...MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

While I can understand that reasoning, I do not think you are making money that way. For example, I wanted Radar contact over a year ago but everytime I got the urge to spend $40, I ended up getting a download instead. Same with your DC-3. I would have already had it and probably already got the b-25 by now. Now Im your average mainstream flight simmer so I know there are MANY more out there who who feel and buy like I do.How many sales are lost because you offer mail order only? I can only guess but Im sure it would more than double if not triple your sales. I also feel that there is so much traffic browsing Flight one, Simmarket ect, the exposure in itself would generate more sales. I stumbled across your DC-3 after reading a review. Heck, even this post will send some customers to your site.....

...er, Mark? Before anyone else points this out, there are actually CH distributors around the world, selling at very similar prices to CH themselves once you figure in delivery. Transair and RC Simulations are two, in the UK alone... ;-)Back on the correct topic, I can entirely understand the museum's (and thus the team's) position on this one. They are, after all, trying to raise money to keep the B25, R4D, Avenger etc. in the air and get the Black Widow back in it, rather than trying to turn a profit. Anything that takes money out of what a customer pays for the package before the museum gets it is out of those projects' funds and in 99% of cases into someone else's profit margin. That kind of defeats the purpose, in my humble opinion.Yes, I can understand potential customers - especially international ones - who would like to be able to buy it through a wrapper or some other online distribution system and be using it the same day. I'm the same, I hate having to wait for registration codes or CDs to arrive. MAAM-SIM aren't a "normal payware" developer though and the system they use is the most advantageous method of achieving their goal, which is ultimately to every aviation or history fan's benefit; keeping the museum's aircraft functioning. And that's said without my beta team hat on. Mainly because I forgot to buy a MAAM hat when I was over there. :-hahCheers,Ian P.
