October 21, 20178 yr Hi, I started P3Dv3 today as admin , it starts loading the default flight and as soon as it reaches 100% I get the message: P3D.exe doesn't work anymore. P3D is switched off. All that changed on my Win10/64 system was a Windows update, a security update for Adobe Flash Player on 21/10. But I suppose that has nothing to do with this problem. Any idea what might cause this? Hans
October 21, 20178 yr Moderator There are several windows updates that are causing this. You need to uninstall them and block them from being reinstalled. see here: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6312&t=126667 Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
October 21, 20178 yr Author Hi Vic, Thanks for the reply. I know how to uninstall updates, but how do I block them from being reinstalled? Hans
October 21, 20178 yr Moderator Look for a MS program called wushowhide - it should be able to get you squared away. I use W10 Pro but I believe it also will work on W10 Home. Also, IIRC, that topic I linked to has some hints on how to do it. Basically you tell Windows to hide the update an it ignores it. MS and LM are working on a fix. October 22, 20178 yr Author Hi Vic, I must have done something wrong, this is what happenend. 1. KB 4038788 shows up in the history of updates. 2. I opened "wushowhide"and selected hide updates/next. Searching for updates/hide updates. But KB4038788 was not in the list! 3. What went wrong, why isn't that update in the list of "wushowhide" 4. You also wrote: "Also, IIRC, that topic I linked to has some hints on how to do it" Sorry what does IIRC stands for (english is not my native language) and where are the hints how to do it? Have patience with me , please Regards, Hans
October 22, 20178 yr Moderator IIRC means "If I Recall Correctly" meaning essentially that I'm not positive. :) Find the KB using add/remove programs - uninistall it. then run wushowhide and it should show up in the list - select it and hide it. October 23, 20178 yr Author Vic, sorry but it won't work because: KB4038778 is not in add/remove programs and not in remove an update. The only place I can find it is in the "history off the updates" So it seems impossible to uninstall it and hide it. I e-mailed with a Dutch guy who wrote the Win10 "Bible"in Dutch and he was very surprised that the KB update couldn't be uninstalled/hided. He suggested to manually install the Fall Creators Update, because that might solve the issue. Ok,but maybe there is another way to "solve" this problem. I was planning to switch to P3Dv4.1 anyway, maybe I should do it now. What do you suggest: 1. Download/manually install the Fall Creators update and then download/install P3Dv4.1 ? 2. Install P3Dv4.1 and then manually install the Fall Creators update? 3. Wait for the autoinstall Fall Creators update and then install P3Dv4.1? 4. Wait, but for what??? Hans
October 23, 20178 yr Moderator Hans - Usually, in add/remove programs the updates do NOT show unless you click "view installed updates". Then you can highlight and uninstall it. HOWEVER - if you are going to 4.1 (which I love by the way) - don't mess around - Just install 4.1 and let the Creator's update install whenever MS decides to do it. No need to manually install it unless you just want to. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
October 24, 20178 yr Author Vic, I had clicked "view installed updates"but I only get 7 updates which I am not interested in but not KB4038778! So, I decided it is going to be P3Dv4.1! Thanks for bearing with me, Hans
October 24, 20178 yr I had the same problem. Instead it was a KB ending in 676 that needed to be uninstalled. Prepar3d worked like a charm after that. https://ibb.co/eEJXwR Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78

At screen choose a airport in antartica - any default and I just let it spawn at runway - and load with a default vehicle, cub, maule etc. I have been try ing to load concordex and PMDG and nothing but ctd's - so I load concordex their and no ctd, then go to the airport of my choice with whatever vehicle I choose and bingo it works. I did uninstall 88 when it first came out but somewhere along the line its now back and will not uninstall - good old Microsoft they have done it again. I hope this is not just ok on my machine. All the best Denis B

You might need to uninstall and hide from reinstall subsequently, after KB4038788 provided patches from Microsoft (such as KB4041676) too. Andreas Furger
October 24, 20178 yr Moderator He has decided to move forward to 4.1 so the problem is moot. Shutting this down. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
