You may select INSTRUMENTS from your pulldown menu and then select RADIO for the autopilot pop-up to appear. (It seems odd to me that the autopilot should be listed as "radio," but that is indeed the case for the Baron 58.) On the G1000, you then toggle NAV1, NAV2, and GPS by pressing the CDI button at the bottom-middle. If you load a flight plan via the build-in flight planner, you can turn on the autopilot master switch, along with the autopilot NAV button, and the G1000 will guide your plane perfectly along the GPS flight path if you have the CDI toggled to GPS on the G1000. I have a question myself for those reading this thread: Is there any way for the G1000 and Autopilot to select specific waypoint altitudes? Suppose, for example, one of my waypoints is Huntington, West Virginia, and I want to be at an altitude of 3500 feet at that point. Is this possible using the G1000 and Autopilot? How would this be achievable? Thank you! How would this be achievable? Thank you! From what I can tell ... no, it is not possible to vary your flight level using a flight plan. At least not in the Baron 58. It would be nice if we could! Just think, you could specify an elevation for user waypoints. You could generate the ultimate mountain range flight plan where you can just let go of the controls, grab the camera, and play tourist while the AP did all the work!

It was my frustration with this that lead to my first purchase of "pro-level" flight simming: the PMDG 737. I've only fallen deeper down the rabbit hole ever since Case in point: beware the autopilot functionality bug. It's contagious.
