April 3, 200620 yr Hi everybody,Like most of you also I have always been looking for the best tweaks to make Fs run better. And like most of you I was always trying to upgrade my system once every 1-2 years. After the Review here at avsim I decided to give it a try also.My system : P4 3Ghz / Fx6800 Gt Agp / 1024 Mb DDr 400According to the many tweaking "guides" I also had my pc tweaked. And I had written a XP / Fs2004 tweaking guide we used at our FsClub.I even was satisfied with the results : all sliders about 2/3 to the right , framerate locked at 23. Only shadows I had turned off and mesh 55.My intentions was to get rid of those micro stutters.Just to get that last bit if improvement. Michael of Fs-Gs spent almost 6 hours with me.The results : all sliders to the right ! Framerate currently locked at 40 !Fs is running Smooth ! Read it again : Yes, Fs is running smooth. With all sliders to the right ; shadows , max autogen en scenery density etc !But the framerate is not the main thing to focus on.Fs can run smooth with much less. FORGET ALL THOSE WELLKNOWN TWEAKS ! ! They do more harm then good.Like other people before me , I have always been sceptical about this service. It was more like to see if it would help that last bit. But what Michael did was turn my computer into a machine that is out of this world. So before you have the intention to buy that new graphics card / processor etc for hundreds of dollars/euros , it would be better to get in touch with Fs-Gs.Those 60 dollars/euros are nothing compared to what you have probably spent the last year on your pc.Here 2 screenshots made at 5000 ft at a speed of 300+.Ultimate Terrain Europe installed with all options, Flight Environment, Ground Environment, As 6 and Traffic 2006.Totally smooth ! ! 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
April 3, 200620 yr Hi,I am quite intrigued by FS-GS's service myself, and since I was unable to find any clarification at all of the changes that are being made to improve the game's performance, could you give us a little insight as to what exactly did you modify to achieve such a big boost? :)Thanks in advance,
April 3, 200620 yr Hi Gerard,"Michael of Fs-Gs spent almost 6 hours with me."Was this a continuous 6 hours on the phone with him? Was it like "try this and tell me what happens", or was he logged into your PC? If he was logged in to your PC, did you need to be on the phone for all that time?Thanks- I hope that these questions do not affect the propietary nature of this service, I'm just trying to find out more about how the general service works.Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
April 3, 200620 yr I'm just trying to find>out more about how the general service works.>>Bruce.If memory serves, this service was recently reviewed right here on avsim.com.Edit: Here is the link:http://www.avsim.com/pages/0306/FSGS/fsgs.htmricardo
April 3, 200620 yr I am also using the FSGS service. So far I have gone through the 6 hour phonecall - all done using messenger. He talks you through the adjustments, so he doesn't take direct control. For me, my fps doubled, clarity of textures a great deal and the fluidity of the sim improved. I mostly fly singles as I am learning to fly, so the extra smoothness has really helped with the sense of flying.Yes, everything is maxed and every option turned on. The sim has never looked as good or felt as fluid. I would recommend the service without hesitation.Ray Keattch
April 3, 200620 yr Hi guys,Try it ! April 4, 200620 yr Without question, the best money I have ever spent on Flightsim. I worked with Michael for the first time about 2 years ago, I still keep in touch with him today, he always has answers and insights into the latest fs9 developments, hardware and software. All anyone has to do is contact him. The first flight you take after his assistance will make you a believer. John HaleyThunder BayCanada
April 4, 200620 yr Bruce,I also benefitted from Michael's service and agree with everything said here. Yes he tells you what to do over the phone, but he also pretty much knows what the outcome is going to be before you make a change. My understanding is that he is a semi-retired computer graphics engineer that used to consult to various departments at Microsoft. I say semi-retired because now he's addicted to this disease called Flight Simulator like the rest of us and started the FS-GS business.First he consults with you regarding your system, any problems, and your expectations. If he feels he can help you, he will then offer his service as he only charges you if you are satisfied. The basics of the service is your operating system is optimized, Flightsim is optimized, and your drivers are optimized with regards to the hardware that you have. He will also let you know if your hardware isn't balanced, i.e. a hardware bottleneck. The operating system changes are done in a new windows hardware profile so you can still use your computer for uses other than Flightsim in the default profile. He also guides you through turning off unneeded windows services and other programs depending on your specific needs and hardware. A lot of what he does is written in the forums. The problem is a lot of what is written is also system specific and/or incorrect. Two things weren't mentioned. The first: you get a heck of an education on computers and the windows operating system. What does a computer course cost these days? The second: he is constantly testing different hardware and flightsim software. You can call him back and ask for advice on any of these to prevent installing something that would cause your system problems due to a faulty product or installation. My biggest selfish concern is that as Michael becomes better known I won't be able to get through to him anymore. His service isn't for everyone. If you feel that you got your machine tuned and running good, than you probably don't need the service. A lot of the people that frequent these forums are also computer engineers and/or serious computer hobbyists and might not benefit much. However, if you are like I was, spending endless hours trying various forum tips for that one that would fix your stuttering rig, then he offers a value that, in my opinion, cannot be beat.If that isn't convincing enough for you, I live in Golden and also fly out of Jeffco. Private message me if you want to take a look at my system. April 4, 200620 yr Hi Ted,Thanks- you have convinced me :)I'm with McAir at Jeffco, how about you? It's a fun airport to fly out of, the controllers are friendly enough and still it gets real busy sometimes. Best of all worlds. Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Always good to see a fellow pilot around :)Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
April 4, 200620 yr Question, does he make you reinstall everything? I have so many add ons that it would take weeks to reinstall all of them. Also I have dual monitors and run 2560 by 1024 resolution in span mode so my system is not typical. I do have micro stutters with some aircraft when locking framerate anything over 20 especially in the virtual cockpit. This low framerates increases blurries in some of my photosceneries so its like I have to choose between blurries or stutters or going back to one monitor wich is not an option since everything looks so much bigger and nicer spanned across 2. Is it all in one session? I don't know if I have 6 hours to spend in front of the computer. While skeptical, I realize there are many aspects of FS and windows that I have little knowledge of(like the registry) where some improvement could be acheived.I have considered the service but I still need more info before I take the plunge.
April 4, 200620 yr It's a pity FSGS don't have a lite version of their service for people with a good background in setting up computers. I mean, 4-6 hours is a long time to be checking and tweaking an OS and system hardware that I'm already pretty familiar with.I dunno what they actually do, but I'm sure that 95% of the session is just confirming settings and driver status, with 5% being changing a few things that actually make the big difference in FS performance and smoothness. I'm sure there is a fundamental theory behind this system unification which, once known, would allow more knowledgable computer people to self-unify their systems.Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy to pay for the "secret recipe" if it really does the deed, I just don't want to spend all that time in the foreplay phase ;)Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
April 4, 200620 yr Bruce,I rent from an individual who has an old Mooney M20 with a turbo STC. That turbo comes in real handy when flying west. :) I'll look you up next time I'm at the field.Ted [email protected] ghz, Noctua C12P CPU air cooler, Asus Z77, 2 x 4gb DDR3 Corsair 2200 mhz cl 9, EVGA 1080ti, Sony 55" 900E TV 3840 x 2160, Windows 7-64, FSX, P3dv3, P3dv4
April 4, 200620 yr A complete reinstall only if your machine is really messed up. In my case, I wanted to clear everything out and start from scratch. I also have two monitors and fly on Vatsim. The span mode brought the frame rates down too low, no stutters, just too slow a response flying an ILS in bad weather. So I fly dualview, full screen, with all the pop-up panels over on the second monitor. All sliders full right except the sight and cloud draw distance, mips at 4. To fly span mode I have to reduce my sliders some. I like flying span mode in the GA aircraft, the tradeoff is I just have to turn down some of the eye candy. I have a Pentium 3.0 ghz and a 6800gt. You don't have to do the whole session in one sitting. Need more info? Contact them, they won't charge you to discuss their service and wether they can help you.Ted [email protected] ghz, Noctua C12P CPU air cooler, Asus Z77, 2 x 4gb DDR3 Corsair 2200 mhz cl 9, EVGA 1080ti, Sony 55" 900E TV 3840 x 2160, Windows 7-64, FSX, P3dv3, P3dv4
April 4, 200620 yr Gary,They may have a "lite session". Let them know what you have, what you've already done, what kind of improvements you would like, and they'll let you know if they think they can offer you any improvements. It's really as simple as that. They don't have a "secret recipe" as much as a "procedure" for setting up a flightsim computer in which the individual changes that are actually made are system dependent. It may be that you already have your computer set up to where they can't offer you much, if so they'll tell you that.Ted [email protected] ghz, Noctua C12P CPU air cooler, Asus Z77, 2 x 4gb DDR3 Corsair 2200 mhz cl 9, EVGA 1080ti, Sony 55" 900E TV 3840 x 2160, Windows 7-64, FSX, P3dv3, P3dv4
April 4, 200620 yr Hi guys,About hardware ; yes Michael needs to know all about your hardfware and will give you advice for changes if needed. In my case it wasn't nesecairy.Really I thought I knew all about computers ; I am a Helpdesk for the 2000 members of our Fs Club. All our computers/lan etc are built by me.But Michael showed me things I didn't even knew. Only if you know what is happening inside the computer/Windows/Fs like Mihael , only than you can tweak like it should. And because every pc/Fs is different all sessions are different !
