April 6, 200620 yr I have noticed that most add-on scenery seems to be designed with default FS2004 mesh in mind. When an add-on is installed on top of 'virgin' FS2004 install
April 6, 200620 yr I've got a lot of that mesh you listed and just throw it all in one folder and activate it. I keep it at the bottom of the scenery list just above default scenery, with every other addon stacked above it. never had a problem. It's shouldn't messs with your other stuff I think. April 6, 200620 yr I think most 3d scenery is placed at ground level, and shouldn't have a problem with mesh, except certain antenna towers and the like actually are pushed down into the ground so that they stick up to the desired height. The main exception is airport scenery, which is given its own elevation. However, the airports sit on top of flattened areas, and these aren't changed by addon mesh.It is possible to locate 3d objects in reference to elevation above sea level, rather than local ground level.Bottom line is that I don't know of a way that addon mesh can cause most scenery to float or sink. Maybe someone else has an idea.scott s..
April 6, 200620 yr You are using Justin Tyme's FS Genesis Freeware, which is some of the best mesh freeware available to us. Some of his scenery packages are self extractingself installing. Other's ask that you do the installation. for example, Here are the installation instructions from one of Justin's readme.txtExtract the BGL contained in this zip file to [fs2002]scenedbworldscenery [fs2004]sceneryworldscenery If you follow(ed) those instructions, you should have no problems. If there are problems, something else in your scenery lineup is responsible.Sherm
April 7, 200620 yr Thanks for all the replies. I did some additional digging including asking a question of the author of the mesh I'm suing and looking at the support forum of the scenery in question. As it turns out - it's a problem that is both known and common. Many add-on sceneries assume default FS 2004 install. Sadly - default FS 2004 install has some inaccuracies and also the way terrain tends to be flattened around airports proves to be not ideal in some cases. When more accurate mesh is used
April 7, 200620 yr The one thing to keep in mind is that the scenery designer may not use an addon mesh. In this case his version of the scenery will look and behave differently than yours. If he uses a flatten or a specified altitude in the scenery, it will be at that altitude and if the addon mesh changes that area, it will have adverse effects.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
