April 9, 200620 yr I'm afraid I'm bit of a gannet - downlaod and install everything I see, then uninstall 90% of it 30 minutes later! This may have been compounded by various attempts to re-install FS9, whereby I haven't re-installed things which I don't use regularly, but echos of them are left around my hard drive.I seem to have got certain items in limbo - I can see them on Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, but when I try to remove them, I can't.Any solutions?Registry cleaning software?
April 9, 200620 yr Add/Remove Pro v. 2.08 - displays the entries in the Add/Remove Programs list of Windows Registry, checks if each is valid, and uninstalls the selected program or removes the entry from the list.http://www.superwin.com/freeware.htm
April 9, 200620 yr We do, indeed, collect a lot of "junk" over time. Here's another freebie which will help get rid of a lot of useless, leftover stuff. I've used it for years and found it to be a reliable product. April 10, 200620 yr Thanks for your helpAfter posting, I found Remove 4 here http://www.mikasalonen.com which seems to have done the trick. However, I still have CTD's!
April 10, 200620 yr You dont need to install yet another program to look deeper into the Add/Remove Programs registry entries. Just run regedit and look in this key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstallCheck the file paths, etc and that will likely tell you what the problem is.http://www.fsd-international.com/team/TD_forum_sig.gif
April 12, 200620 yr Author Tim - I stumbled onto this thread and, as a result of your tip here, I was able to get rid of a leftover file that was troublesome. Thanks! Now I would like to ask if it is advisable to delete ALL the entries listed under 'uninstall'??Thanks again for the tip.Scott

Unless you really know what you are doing, you are playing with fire doing anything in the registry! One wrong move here, can corrupt it, and make your system unbootable! BE CAREFUL if you proceed anyway, and back it up before any changes are made!!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
April 13, 200620 yr Author I am aware of that(and I don't know what I'm doing)! Thanks! I took the chance and everything seems fine at the moment. Btw, I watched your P-51 video about a year ago. Good job! Lucky you! I was at Midland, TX for the 'CAF' show this past OCT, and a 20 min. ride in a P-51 was $800!Scott
April 13, 200620 yr I agree with Tom. This is not something you want to do. If you have individual problems uninstalling software just go into that key and see if you can find the problem. If you have a lot of registry problems it's really time to start thinking about reformatting and reinstalling Windows. Your life will become aggravating with persistent registry problems. My http://www.fsd-international.com/dc/images/twocents.gifhttp://www.fsd-international.com/team/TD_forum_sig.gif
April 13, 200620 yr >If you have individual problems uninstalling software just go>into that key and see if you can find the problem.Suggesting that someone edit the registry, especially when not knowing their level of expertise or familiarity with such things, is nothing short of reckless advice. The original poster was given links to two reliable programs that would do the job that he wanted them to. >If you have a lot of registry problems it's really time to>start thinking about reformatting and reinstalling Windows. More ridiculous advice. Reformatting and reinstalling Windows, and the MAJOR time and hassles that it entails, is only necessary due to the most DRASTIC of events or problems.
April 13, 200620 yr Author Okay, I'll take it as a 'NO' to my question regarding deleting ALL the entries listed under 'UNINSTALL' in that section of the Registry. My original situation which prompted the question was-----after a re-install of FS9 everything was fine except that trying to re-register Active Camera caused a CTD (black screen)and a hard re-boot. I un-installed AC, but the AC .dll in the FS9 Modules folder could not be deleted (or moved) no matter what I tried. When I saw this thread I found 2 entries in the 'UNINSTALL' section of the Registry both preceded by 'AC'. When expanded upon one had a reference to FS9 and the other made reference to .dll, so I deleted both. The 'ActiveCamera2004.dll' is now absent from the Modules folder and FS9 is running properly.Btw, I did download both cleaner utilities, but haven't installed them yet. Would either, or both, have deleted this .dll??Scott
