What's up with the Grand Canyon?

Featured Replies

Flew into the Grand Canyon (KGCN) this afternoon and found three FedEx and one DHL 727s parked there.  Are they building a Trump Tower or something there?  I would think all they would need was a Cessna Caravan feeder to service a general aviation airport for a national park.

I have the Williams-Grand Canyon route on my train simulator for the tourist train that makes the daily run.  Maybe I'll fire it up and see if a 100 car container train is wending it's way up the tracks.

I think My Traffic experiences cargo aircraft overkill.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

No. They are there to haul out bottled clear mountain water from the Colorado River snow shed!

May they all get giardia.

I was also USAF meteorologist (forecaster) Frank.  I was Army support.  Went to observer and forecaster schools back to back at Chanute in the  mid 80s.

i was there for both schools in late 1970 and 1971. Then I was sent to Forney AAF at Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri.  Stayed there until my 1974 discharge. Went back through Forney back in December 2010, and through Chanute AFB a day later.  Forney is now a county owned regional airport and still has a couple of scheduled airline flights a day, just like when I was there.  Chanute was an utter disappointment.  There is a nice museum there as a tribute to the avionics and jet engine schools, but virtually nothing about the weather school.  A lot of this country's meteorologists were trained there over the years.  Appears that training is now Air Force placement into Universities:

Another interesting fact. Back in the early 1990's on the Prodigy online network, a number of us flight sim enthusiasts, using subLogic's ATP:Flight Assignment, formed the first virtual airline, SunAir, Airline of Imagination.  Two other members of that group were also trained at the Chanute weather school.

Thanks for touching base.

You must be using MyTraffic 6. They are heavy on the cargo schedules.

If you get a crash while flying around a military base, come visit me in the AVSIM CTD Forum.

I haven't had a crash since I moved to Steam and got my new computer Jim.  But I'll keep it in mind.
