Merging the Overland 777 and the PSS Panel... small problem!

Featured Replies

I tried merging the Overland/SMS 777-200 with the PSS panel (using the PSS .air file, of course) and everything works fine... but I have one small problem...The visual model now sinks into the ground to about half the height of the tires on both the main gear and nose gear. This is directly related to using the PSS .air file instead of the Overland .air file. The visual model on the Overland 777 is fantastic and very frame-rate friendly (versus the PSS or MelJet models)and I'd like to use it with the PSS panel (even though the PSS panel is an -LR and not an -ER version)I tried adjusting the static CG height in the Aircraft.cfg file, however the model started bouncing all over the place. I tried making minute adjustments in the Static CG height values, however it either sinks, or starts bouncing.. no "in between"..Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?Thanks in advance!Alex

Lots of luck!Over the years there have been many posts regarding these merges. To my knowledge nobody has been able to find the solution for the 777 panel. The PSS panel for the 747 works with other models at least to a point. I love the loadit provisions and converted all of the aircraft.cfg and airfiles for the chosen models to the PSS format so that those provisions would be available (Meljet and Posky). Unfortunately for me at the present time, flight dynamics suffer a bit when that option is implemented. In fact, FDC is not the best with or without the PSS files when the FMC is implemented. At one time in the past, I do not remember this being a problem so it may be tied to reinstallation and upgrading over the years and I may have missed something somewhere. After a recent total computer crash, I have finally chosen to not reinstall either the PSS 747, nor the DF737 merges. (Probably will relent at some future date). The DF737 merge has no problems at all of which I am aware. With the evolution of the PMDG offerings, I am afraid these birds have become a tad outdated, but I still value them both very highly. The FMC provisions are still very good IMHO.Happy flying:RTH1585368CFI

Ummm...I was actually referring to the NEW PSS 777 panel...) :-roll (which I have successfully merged with the Meljet model, by the way:-hah )Alex

So sorry Alex:I also have the new new 777 and this old memory flashed back into the archives.Good idea, I hadn't thought of that yet.Regards:RTH

Thanks for the suggestion, John.. but I tried it already.. with no luck! It's a shame that the Overland FDE doesn't work with the PSS panel, though... it flies wonderfully (like a real heavy) but the PSS auto-throttle doesn't work with it!I guess I'll just have to shelve the idea.... The Overland 777 models, though, are beautifully done... I and they come with a well-done paint kit as well!-Alex

Thought?Have you peeked at the aircraft.cfg and/or Airfile to see that it is enabled?Just ignore me if this is out of bounds.RTH

It's not so much a matter of it being enabled... it has to do with the compatibility. The PSS .air file is specifically designed to operate with their panel. The Overland .air file isn't tuned to work properly with the PSS panel. If I use the PSS .air file with the Overland model, everything works OK (even though the Overland model is a 777-200ER and the PSS model is a 777-200LR) I'm not so concerned with the differences in the two models.. I just want to fly the 777 with a good FMC. The only problem is that with the merge of the PSS. air file and the Overland visual model is that the aircraft sits with it's landing gear slightly sunk into the asphalt when I have the PSS .air file associated with it. IF I have it's original .air file attached, then the aircraft sits perfectly on the ground.I have been using the PSS panel merged with the MelJet visual model and it performs wonderfully, however the MelJet 777 was designed for FS2002 and therefore doesn't have the XML code to control the behavior of the landing gear and wingflex to the same degree as the Overland visual model (which, incidentally was designed by Missi a.k.a FSPainter)I think PSS did a fantastic job on the panel, but I think their visual model is a little innacurate and not as detailed as the others. Additionally, only one airline currently flies the 777-200LR... the -200ER is used more extensively and therefore leaves more possibilities for repaints. (by the way, Overland has included EXCELLENT paint kits for every model on the CD.. both Airbus and Boeing)The Meljet model is beautifully done, however there are WAY too many polygons (mostly in the Virtual Cabin) and therefore, it hogs frames. The Overland model has a virtual cockpit (though it's poorly done) but the external model is very nice and accurate...If I could just fix the sinking problem, it would be a good merge!Alex

Alex,Gonna stick my ignorant neck out 'cause I'm no contact point expert - have you tried adjusting the 'gear height' points for each gear set? I've done this in the past with another merge but cannot guarantee the results in your case.regards,Markhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1024mb/X700pro256

Hi Mark,Well.. in the aircraft.cfg, there's really no "gear height" setting, per se... there are several contact points that relate to the main gear & nose gaer. I've fiddled with them a little bit, but I'm not enough of an authority on those settings to know what I'm doing. The adjustments I've made have little or no effect on the problem. My understanding (through searching the forums) was that the overall setting was the "staticCG height"... but adjusting that produced uncontrollable bouncing. If there are specific parameters that can be adjusted in the contact points, then I'm open to suggestions...I did, however try copying the contact pints from the original model with no luck... I'm hoping someone with more knowledge int his area will chime in and offer suggestions! :-)Alex

DUH! :) Sorry Alex - I meant the fourth parameter 'vertical position' //0 Class <0=none,1=wheel, 2=scrape, 3=float> //1 Longitudinal Position (feet) //2 Lateral Position (feet) //3 Vertical Position (feet)regards,Markhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1024mb/X700pro256

I've tried simply aliasing it, but then I lose Auto Throttle. And if I replace Meljet's 772 ER airfile with PSS' 772 LR airfile (the nearest thing to a 772ER), I'll have A/T, but then I'll lose any ability to take off from high altitude airports like SKBO (Bogot
