P3Dv4.1 VR - grass polygon is sunken below runways, etc.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just got my hands on an Oculus rift to try out.  I'm hoping to get a few hours in P3Dv4.1 before I have to return it.  I've gotten VR to work and the cockpits looks awesome as does the scenery from above, however while taxiing, it seems like the grass polygon in sunken by a few feet.  The tarmac and taxiways appear normal, and objects like 3D grass, signs and lights seem to be floating over the grass surface below.  Any thoughts what might be causing this?  Other games seem to be working fine (including IL2-BoS which is stunning in VR!).

I'm running P3D v4.1 and the latest oculus home software (1.9?), latest nVidia drivers.  I do have a ton of addons installed in P3D, but removed EZCA prior to installing the oculus.  Not sure what would cause what I'm seeing and I'm surprised I haven't seen it reported by others...any help appreciated!

Best,

sg

@OP,

     Yes - you are correct and this was noticed over a year ago - it happens when using terrain tesselation (only with stereo VR) which used to be something we could disable. Not sure if setting it to 0 would fix it anymore - but there would be some downside to that probably.

Thanks for the quick reply - I'll try turning it down and see if it helps, but what you're saying is it's probably un-fixable at this time?

Didn't help.  Set to far left in options, and also to 0 in prepar3d.cfg...bummed.  :(

@Gridley,

       I believe that this VR problem with sunken grass near taxiways has been fixed in v4.2 (at least it seems that way to me). Check it out for yourself.

Not sure it’s fixed in 4.2 still looks weird to me. I try and look over the grass, if I look directly at it it makes my eyes and head get sore.

@Iceman2,

      Try switching to Stereo->Single Pass, then stop execution and restart and just enable Oculus VR (don't change modes) - see if it is still the same.

        Also, make sure you use the 0.83.1 version of Oculus Tray Tool and set it for 1.2 or so SuperSampling:

Yeah, I agree - I thought it was fixed at first, but still seems off.  It's much worse with FlyInside, so I may post in their forum.  Do you all who have issues also use FlyInside?
