It doesn't break the aircraft but it is disappointing since I use the feature all the time.  Anyone have a solution besides uninstalling and reinstalling it?

You didn't mention if the HGS display still drops down or not, and if the HGS control panel is still in the center console.

If all of above is missing then maybe the livery you are using does not have the HGS option?  It is an option in the Aircraft Equipment options.

If none of above is missing then maybe the font file has gone missing... this is a problem reported here every couple of months.  Run the installer as admin and select REPAIR.

There are of course several other things that could go wrong but you provided so little information I don't want to guess.

I had this issue after troubleshooting a RAAS issue... it was due to an alteration in the DLL.XML file:

 

C:\Users\-----YOUR USER NAME-----\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\DLL.XML

I thought  the HGS/HUD were essentially part of the same thing. The only part that doesn't work properly is that it doesn't show anything. I tried completely reinstalling it just a few moments ago with no luck. I'll try repairing it, then I'll try the other suggestion.
