Help needed setting up Ultimate Realism Pack 1.1 with PTA

Featured Replies

Hi all,

So I downloaded and installed URP 1.1. I had previously been using PTA but really liked what I saw from screenshots and videos of URP so decided to try it out. I didn't want to install ReShade with it as I use PTA, and also didn't install any of the other options as SkyForce and Envtex/ASCA handle those for me.

My question is can I still use PTA with URP installed? What will happen if I change the PTA preset? And are there any PTA presets out there using URP as well?

The new URP installer does not come with PTA presets as the installation tutorial video says, or maybe I haven't found it I don't know.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Others know far more than I do on this topic but I would say you pick one of them, PTA with any preset you like or URP - not both at the same time.

I'm using URP 1.1 for P3Dv4 with the included sky textures and the High contrast - No reshade option and couldn't be more happy. Just set it and forget it including the recommended HDR settings in P3D.

Been trying PTA and Envshade as well but URP is what will give the most overall realistic look and feel IMO.

Ahh I see that makes sense, I was wondering if URP was also customizeable like PTA but apparently not.

So far I do like what I see but maybe it needs a few slight adjustments, but I guess the only way I can adjust it now is to use the internal brightness/bloom/saturation settings, or to use reshade am I correct?

I would like to not use reshade as I have heard some users have performance issues.

But I would like to know one thing, as I have been using PTA before, do I need to restore these shaders before installing URP? As I didn't do that before.

Cheers

You always first reinstall the default Shaders before customizing things.

I'm currently using Aviation Lad's Reshade + PTA winter preset which works really well.

I have noticed many specifically avoid the use of Reshade.  Is there any particular reason?

I don't like the haze effects that the Reshade presets I tried had, so I don't use it. I fly mostly in Norway where the air is clear and clean. If things are hazy I trust Active Sky will make conditions right. I also don't like that it has to be installed inside the main P3D folder, and that its interface intrudes itself into the sim.

It is however rumored that Reshade can give a slight performance hit.

Yep, always start with default shaders.

However, if I recall correctly URP comes with its shaders in a separate folder meaning it won't overwrite the default ones which I find very smart.

Comparing URP to PTA, my experience is PTA is for those wishing to tweak while URP is for those who just want something that already looks very good out of the box sort of speak.

Sure, you can pick a preset for PTA and be happy with it but I wasn't able to find any preset for PTA looking as good as URP.

Richard, is there a 'winter' and a 'summer'  set with URP or is it just a standard set.  Obviously light intensity is a factor in how things look and display, so wondered whether this is considered.  There seems to be quite a few summer/winter specific shader presets about.

I comes with low and high contrast and with or without reshade.

I'm using the high contrast with no reshade for all seasons and after trying lots of PTA presets what URP gives me really is the best thing IMO and with zero effort.

Thanks for the help everyone. I initially didn't restore my PTA shaders as I thought URP and PTA work together for some reason.

Didn't run into any issues, but just to be safe I might uninstall URP, restore PTA to default and then reinstall. Ahh the joys of flight simming!
