screenshots problem with screenhunter and simpicshot

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have struggled with these problems now for quite a while and I can not seem to resolve them.

ScreenHunter 7.0 (free)

I have downloaded this programme many times. I have configured it to take shots using the print screen key and for it to download to a Drive D folder in my IDM downloads folder (screenshots amd Video)

I set up a flight and at the appropriate time I press the print screen key. I get the subsequent camera sound and I am unable to take a further screenie until 8 minutes later when my flight is interrupted with the screenshot. That in itself, is very inconveient, but I additionally, am using 6 screens and it takes a mini photo of all the screens set in black. This is very handy as a one off to show people my screen displays but I cannot set up a single screen aspect for any display.

I actually suspect that I have done something wrong, either in installation or set-up,  as nowhere in any forums can I see a reference to an 8 minute delay (very consistent) between shot and the subsequent screenie. The programme is doing everything it should ... the screenshots appear in the right place and the quality is great. The delay and my inablility to take a screen shot of just a single screen is very frustrating

Any ideas?

Simpicshot.

I downloaded and set up this programme in a similar manner to ScreenHunter 7.0 Nowhere in the installation can I find a reference to setting up a key to take the screenie. I went hunting and found that this is automtically set to the print key. Pressing this key  is not doing anything. Again, I think I have done something wrong with the installation but as far as I can see, there are no set up instructions as it appears to be fully automatic. ie install and hit printscreen key to take the screenie.

If I cannot get help with these two programmes, can anybody recommend another screenshot programme?

Regards

Tony

Hello Tony,

While I am not using these programs for taking screenies, may I suggest a few ideas.

An 8 minute delay is unusual, however the answer may be in your (OS Hardware Power Options)

The "D" drive (perhaps a HDD) that you are sending the captured pictures, may have spun down or if it is an external drive the USB port that it is connected to may have gone into power saving mode. Spinner HDD drives wake from spindown/power saving with the usual refusal/stubbornness, like getting out from a warm bed on a cold winters morning.

As an example: I have a Leadtek HDTV PCIE TV tuner in my rig, It has facilities to capture programs as mpeg, mp4 video, as well as snapshot screen caps (as jpeg) from the running DTV and tuned channel, then save to a specific drive and folder location. If the (save) drive has gone to sleep (Power saving mode) there will be a significant delay when activating the designated buttons and screen cap (spacebar key) until the drive has been brought back from its slumber.

You may also see this sleeping drive behaviour when opening the "Windows file Explorer" where the drive needs to be woken up before presenting you with the folder/file tree, as the green progress bar moves across the address bar.

If you notice that the "D drive" Save location, has indeed gone to sleep while you are simming, you can go into your Power options and change the way in which USB ports and drives remain as always fully powered and ready for action. You should be able then instantly save without delay.

As to the other functional aspects of taking a single screen cap from a 6 monitor setup I have no Idea, nor do I know of the setup requirements of the  ScreenHunter 7.0 (free) program.

Recommendations for screenie caps: I'm a straight "V" key'er using one screen so I'm not much help on that score, but you can use The OS inbuilt "Snipping Tool" to capture portions of a screen with the (lasso) or use Alt+PrtScn to capture jpegs of the foreground window, Save to location of your choosing. Although if the drive has powered down or inactive USB the save (D drive) is taking a nap, then you will see a short delay when saving. Perhaps review your power options for those devices/ports or set Power Options to "High Performance".

Cheers Jethro
