February 16, 20188 yr Hi all, do you know where can i fine a full comprehensive tool that one can manage all his sceneries for P3Dv4? i am not talking only about scenery.cfg, but also supports the addon.cfg, add-on.xml files (both in the scenery folder and the %programData%) and consolidate them all into one management view? "SceneryConfigEditor", the latest version I couldn't find a way to manage both scenery.cfg and add-on.xml in consolidated view (or at all), so it doesn't meet the needs. Joel Strikovsky
February 16, 20188 yr P3Dv4AddonOrganizer will do the job. Available from Lorby-SI right here from Avsim. Have a look here: https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/795-lorby-si-freeware/ Cheers, Pierre Pierre I9 14900K 5.5 64gb ram 6800 RTX5090 Asus Strix Gaming E
February 16, 20188 yr Author how do i see in this tool rather a scenery is in the scenery.cfg file or the add-on.xml file? also in case of conflict (two sceneries or the same scenery or any other conflict) between sceney.cfg and add-on.xml, who prevails? how does the layers work in both cases scenery.cfg / add-on.xml (who wins)? would the tool know to show the correct layers taking consideration both the scenery.cfg and the add-on.xml layers, fitting them correctly in a consolidated view? On the main screen. Scenery.cfg entries have light colors, add-on.xmls are dark (green/red, depending on if they are active or not) 2. the one with the higher layer. But you really don't want to have the same scenery in both. 3. The one that has the highest layer number. P3D processes layer numbers across both the scenery.cfg and all add-on.xml files 4. Yes Please note that the P4AO (and the add-on.xml method) is not only about scenery. While it is the most prominent feature, you can manage every type of external (=add-on.xml) content with it (aircraft, textures, effects, gauges, shaders etc.). Best regards LORBY-SI
February 16, 20188 yr Author thanks for your reply. Another question? is there a migration tool from scenery.cfg to add-on.xml? for an example if i install an old style scenery and I want to migrate it, is there a tool that could easily generate/add engereis in the add-on.xml? or if i already have a bunch of them in scenery.cfg, a migration too that will generate them all in an xml way... Yes, that is the whole point of the P4AO, so you don't have to write XML files yourself. And you can move entries from the scenery.cfg to an add-on.xml definition and back with a couple of mouse clicks. Note that only the reference WRT to the sim changes, the scenery data itself (bgl and textures) will not be moved anywhere. Best regards LORBY-SI
February 16, 20188 yr Author i have noticed the tool doesn't find/discover/display any scenery (add-on.xml) that was placed under '%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Prepar3d v4 Files\add-ons' or '%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons' based on the LM documentation (Add-on Instructions for Developers / Creating an Add-on Package) the SIM should autodiscover those that were placed under that path (Prepar3D's default add-on discovery folder) . e.g. FSDG P3Dv4 installation take use of it and place the addon xml under that folder for autodiscover, even though the data files themselves are located at a custom/different directory/drive, without the need to add the XML reference in the addon CFG file. but the tool doesn't pick it up or leverage this autodiscover, hence it doesn't show you the full picture in the UI of the addons you have installed and are valid activated in Prepar3d 4 also what about if I add another discovery folder in addon CFG file, I don't think the tool will pick it up I opened a new topic in the appropriate forum:https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/795-lorby-si-freeware/ Joel Strikovsky

Recent versions of SimStarter can handle both as well and have an included add-on.xml manager. Available from Aerosoft as (low-priced) Payware. February 17, 20188 yr Commercial Member Hello @ll, just a friendly adivce - don't use P4AO and SimStarter at the same time. SimStarter adds artificial scenery entries to group/sort the scenery, and P4AO struggles with that concept. I just went through a lengthy issue tracking and fixing process with a user because of this. The latest version of P4AO won't mind too much, but it is officially not supporting SimStarter. Once you have decided to use SimStarter, I strongly advise to stick with it. Best regards LORBY-SI

SimStarter can insert grouping entries ("Spacers") indeed, but there is no need to actually use them. I never do. It would be interesting to know if there are interplay issues beween Lorby Si and SimStarter beyond these. Best regards i purchased the simstarter, tried it out.. heeemmmm i am sad to say but IMO your tool (P4AO) is far more comprehensive and feature like, simple to user, easier to understand and work with than the SimStarter when it comes to managing addons. maybe as an overall tool the Simstarter is better as it covers not only addons, but when it comes to purely managing addons, I found P4AO much better and easy to work with than SimStarter. that is my opinion....
