February 20, 20188 yr Oh, it seems like my airspeed indicator is busted, might have a pitot tube blockage... https://imgur.com/a/KKtE8 Lemme check my... https://imgur.com/a/izavK ......oh, riiiight. It's DEFINITELY blocked...! Robert A. JonesIntel i7800, NVIDIA GTX 1070, Corsair 4x8GB DDR4 2666, 1+2TB WD Black, Gigabyte Z370 HD3 R1.0.
February 20, 20188 yr Just today I forgot to put up the flaps on the A2A 172, took off and promptly stalled. Got to read better! Forever indebted to the late Michael Greenblatt of FSGS.
February 20, 20188 yr LOL, + 1 for the Walkaround. Mind you, I can talk; I've taken a PMDG 737 off the cement with the FWD Left Door open and the Air stairs extended AND the GRD PWR still connected - flying magically to the side and below. PMDG would confiscate the aircraft from me if I'd posted that screenshot! That's when I finally got the Walkaround as an indispensable part of preflight. Flying WR as well - you quickly learn just how important the pre-flight is - as it's so easy for this sort of thing to happen; you just want to "get up there", etc. Procedure Procedure Procedure. However much of a hurry you're in. Fair Winds (and reliable IAS) to you! Maybe this will help: https://web.cs.wpi.edu/~rich/courses/cs525u-s08/projects/mtavares/Cessna172.pdf
February 20, 20188 yr Author Hehe...and I was wondering why my airspeed read zit with no failures. When I looked out the window, my mind just went, "OH FUK! Gonna get a spanking from the (virtual) CFI now...!" Robert A. JonesIntel i7800, NVIDIA GTX 1070, Corsair 4x8GB DDR4 2666, 1+2TB WD Black, Gigabyte Z370 HD3 R1.0.

They take the guess work out of knowing whether your aircraft is ready to go - or not.
February 20, 20188 yr Author I know, and I've always used them, just this ONE time I didn't, and I word not allowed. Robert A. JonesIntel i7800, NVIDIA GTX 1070, Corsair 4x8GB DDR4 2666, 1+2TB WD Black, Gigabyte Z370 HD3 R1.0.

Now, don't do it again. Your CFI would forgive you at this point. A bit. But not fully. I read somewhere about us pilots getting lazy with Checklists and then someone pointed out that each and every NASA mission has demanded Checklists are used - whether you're going in to shallow Earth orbit or if you're going to the Moon. And if it's good enough for those guys...
February 21, 20188 yr True story... I was taking my neighbor flying. Had finished the walk around and was doing the cockpit check when I remembered I'd left the chart on the FBO counter. I got out of the plane and went back and got it. Got back n the cockpit and continued the cockpit checks. As soon as I was airborne I heard and awful clanking sound coming from the back of the aircraft. I notified the tower I thought something was wrong with the aircraft and was returning to land. He told me to pick any runway (we had three at the time). I taxied back to the FBO and they came running out the door after hearing my conversation with the tower. Imagine my chagrin and red face when I discovered my seat belt hanging out the door. The buckle had been flapping around the slipstream banging on the side of the airplane. If you are interrupted while going through your checklist go back and start over again. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
February 21, 20188 yr On my first solo, I missed securing the canopy. That was a nerve wracking 5 minute circuit with the door flapping around :p Luckily no one noticed :) Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS
