June 3, 200620 yr Like most of us here at AVSIM. com I have a preference in the type of aircraft I fly and the scenery I enjoy most. I have no talent for producing addon scenery or aircraft and admit to taking advantage of those generous and capable folks who are so kind and sharing of their abilities with the free contributions to this exceptional hobby. Whenever possible, I have provided digital photos of airports for scenery designers, beta tested many aircraft, gauges, and utilities for folks . I do spend considerable ( my financial advisor ((wife)) reminds that it is far beyond our means) on payware when it is warranted ( I shamelessly mention VOZ) and there are numerous others. Now to the point of my post. May I plead with scenery designers to include helo landing sites in your masterpieces. Perhaps most airports do not designate a large "H" landing pad but those of us who enjoy flying below a " mixer beater " would appreciate a target on which to hone our skills. Thanks for any considerationGary
June 3, 200620 yr Author Hi GaryIf interested in flying choppers offshoreyou might be interested in looking at -The ODG Projecthttp://www.fs-odg.comThe UK package includes 332 helipads. The Gulf of Mexico demo package includes 24 helipads. If flying on FS2004the platforms with superstructure around the padsalso include live turbulence.HTHPaulhttp://www.basys.f9.co.uk/resources/images..._sig_500x94.jpg ODG Preview
June 3, 200620 yr Thank you, Paul, I do have every one of those and am on a mission to set down on all of them ( not all in one session;-) tho') The detail is really impressive. I suppose I'll never have enough pads to conquer. I should add that it is really a challenge sometimes to land the advanced DODO 206 on those rigs where the wind currents and the realism of the aircraft can get a guy into a great deal of hurt.cheersGary
June 3, 200620 yr Author Hi GaryMy apologies I hadn't recognised your username. :-lol All in one session :-eek now there's an ideathat would be a real challenge.I'm not familiar with online flying, would it be possible to have two players share the same aircraft ?I'm still on FS2002so have yet to experience the turbulence effects.Glad to hear -a) any feedback, and :( that someone's using them.ATBPaulhttp://www.basys.f9.co.uk/resources/images..._sig_500x94.jpg ODG Preview
June 3, 200620 yr Gary I am with you 100%, would love to see more heli oriented areas in new scenery uploads and projects. One thing you can do is use AFCAD and you can insert a helipad of various shapes and sizes yourself, takes a minute.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/tfbeta.jpg Best, Michael KDFW
June 4, 200620 yr Hello,I'm probably missing it but where are the AFCAD files for the download? I go to the AFCAD download area but I don't see any files. Thanks in advance,Ron SagelNEAR KCHSDODOSIM pilot in training

June 4, 200620 yr Also great to meet you here, Paul. The realism of the platforms and ships is so great that I find myself immersed in flying to them as tho' my life depended on a successful landing. I would really recommend anyone to visit the ODG site. Had to laugh at the thought of visiting all the rigs in one session. Having the Advanced DODO 206 and ActiveSky weather really make things pretty realistic. I suppose you wil be making that extreme leap from FS2002 to FSX when it arrives. I would love to be looking over your shoulder when you do.Yes, the turbulence effects are challenging. I used to do a great deal of multi-player flying but recent hand surgery makes handling the flight stick painful over any long session so now fly alone. Yes there is a programme available, or at least used to be, where you could fly with two pilots in a single aircraft online. In fact, I gave it a try just once and ended up as a passenger in a helo watching two pilots exchange PIC while I sat helplessly watching everything in my display and conversing with them. Someone reading this might post more info on that programme but I've forgotten the name of it.CheersGary
June 4, 200620 yr Thanks for the link, Mike, I'll see if I can get this old brain to use it.:-rotor Gary
June 11, 200619 yr Author Hi FolksGary -My apologies for the delay in my replying,I've been heavily tied up with IRL issues for the previous 10 days.Cheers for your supportive recommendations for the ODG UKEZ sceneries.I'm glad it's an immersive experience, just wait till we add the Voicepacks, AFCADs, & AI Traffic. We also really need to get some more modellers involved to create a greater variety of models for phase II, particularly for the vessels, FPSOs, & MODUs.We also have commenced working on the ODG Netherlands packages.I'd probably have to upgrade my laptop to run FSX,so might just upgrade to FS2004, so am looking forward to trying the turbulence.Sorry to hear about your hand, especially as the bods over at Hovercontrol have now had a couple of online flying sessions on the ODG UKEZ scenery packages. We all had a great time, and it was my first online experience in FS, (just slewing around though). There's some pics in the Gallery. They intend to have more sessions, so I'll let you know, just in case you wish to join in.If anyone knows the name of this copilot programmeI'd much appreciate it.MichaelThanks for posting the link.I think Ron was referring to the missing AFCADs for the ODG UKEZ platforms.I've replied to him in his duplicate post on the ODG forums.HTHATBPaulhttp://www.basys.f9.co.uk/resources/images..._sig_500x94.jpg ODG Preview
