June 22, 200619 yr Hey everyone, I've been thinking about purchasing the the RXP Flightline N and or T gauges they offer. I have one addon I really want to try installing them into. The FT Caravan. Are they hard to install, and has anyone tryed them in the caravan? I am pretty good with panel and sound cfg files, so I think it will help. Just looking for some input. Thanks everyone.
June 22, 200619 yr I don't have them but I have just about every other gauge from RXP. I use FS Panel Studio. It's been a godsend when it comes to modifying panels. Studio can be purchased online and downloaded.
June 23, 200619 yr If you are only talking about swapping standard 'steam gauges', it is really pretty easy, and many folks can help you via the forum if you get stuck. 'Swapping' gauges typically only requires replacing the 'stock' gauge with the 'like' RXP gauge, then setting them up via the xxconfig.exe. Rearranging a panel is when some more tedious work can take place. It is usually the VC panels that can be tricky, depending how the panel was designed, and usually the biggest issues are the radio stack area's, or trying to install gauges where none currently exist.I have them all except the 'jet line' series, costly, but worth it IMO....and I also do it all 'by hand', and once you get the hang of it, it isn't too tough to figure out.
June 23, 200619 yr I've installed both 'T' and 'N' into a bunch of aircraft, although not the Caravan, and it really is very easy. You do sometimes get some odd looking artefacts, particularly if the old gauges had mounting screws in the corners. I guess you could always edit the main panel bitmap to tidy it up, but I've not tried it.
June 23, 200619 yr Editing a designers .bmp file is typically against their copyright.Best to check first. Using it only for personal use may not be an issue. In terms of screw location, Reality XP does offer a octagonal bezel type mounting option that may 'cover' these type of issues.
June 23, 200619 yr coincidentally, I had been contemplating purchasing for some time also and broke down and got the T line last night. I wanted to replace those in the Flight 1 172. I did get them in and they help with handling. They gave me a framerate hit of 7-8fps, but I still like them a lot. But I am having a bit of a time wth installation and I'm pretty sauvy about these things. I've been most successful building a new minipanel, which I am especially happy about. One difficulty is that FS Panel Studio doesn't depict XML gauages well (unless I've missed something) so it is easy to get them distorted or the wrong size etc. I recommend them, but set aside some time. I'm going to post some questions over at the RXP forum later, so I'm sure I'll get things worked out.

They only require taking the time to download and install... ;) Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
June 24, 200619 yr Author Oops! Sorry for not getting back. I forgot I posted this thread. Anyway, thanks guys for your input. I am pretty good with the cfgs with trial and error. I think I will take the plunge. The FT carvan I want to fix up is nice, but the RXP gauges will make this a nicer plane when finished. Thanks again.
