airports too quiet

I am wondering if anyone has any idea how to make the engine sounds of other traffic louder? for example - in a real airline you can really hear other aircrafts engines (especially on takeoff). In FS if i am sat holding at a runway i want to really hear the others around me but the sounds are lame. In spot view it is even worse! anyone made theirs work better?

'environment' slider in fs9 sound settings - turn it up. It controls other sounds as well though, like wind volume, touchdown volume in your cockpit. On a related note you can also download AI engine sound replacements (here) if you do not like the actual sounds themselves.regards,Markhttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a319/mar.../sup_banner.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1024mb/X700pro256

Are your spot views quite realistic sound wise?

In your SOUND folder, find the files "ai_lgjet.wav" and "xai_lgjet.wav"Pop them into Windows Sound Recorder and increase the volumne by 25%, save and restart FS. Get some better files off the library here and do the same til you find the sound you're happy with.

The best AI replacement sounds I have been able to find are in a file which is available only at Flightsim.com (not at AVSIM) called aisnz2.zip.But no sound set seems able to create that deep roar jets make on takeoff and reverse thrust (I think this may be a failing of the MSFS sound engine rather than the wav files).Martin

Unless you are an avid user of Radar Contact4 (RC4), I strongly suggest you take a look at FShotseat or to be more precise the lite version, calles FSHotFX. I won't go into any details as to what it does since I don't want to make this look like an ad, but basically it adds sounds to e g spool-up, tyre screeches, reversing etc.IMHO it adds a total new level to the plane spotting experienc and the airport certainly comes alive. However, I do not use it anymore :( because it clashes with Radar Contact 4. FSHotFX needs to classify aircrafts as a certain type of aircraft, say turoprop, whereas RC4 defines them as a certain airliner. I know, not too technical an explanation but the result if you use FSHotFX and RC4 is that in the latter (which is a replacement for the default ATC) an airliner will be referred to as eg "Boing 737" instead of "Delta 125".But if you don't use or plan on using RC4, I strongly suggest FSHotFX. I can't comment on their support level. I've emailed one support issue that never got answered but that can be explained by many valid factors.

I tried FSHotFX but never got it to work in FS2k4. I tried emailing support but never got an answer. I wouldn't recommend FSHotFX although in theory it was a great idea...

got it! sorry

For me FSHotFX always worked flawlessly with CoF and I was very impressed by it. My problem was that after one reinstall I had problems getting the software activated. I never got a reply but I managed to activate it after a zillion number of attempts. Their support forum seems very quiet

As suggested already, the best way may be to replace some files and then open all the ai sound files and increase their volume levels. I did this with the AI and with all the thunder sounds and I love them! FSE - Flight Simulator Enhancer for FS2004. Yeah it's payware, but you can easily add a vast array of sounds included in the package (as well as others on the internet) e.g. airport night environment, jet and prop sounds, city environments (traffic, sirens, etc.), night environments (e.g. crickets, owls) - for those lonely airstrips in the middle of nowhere - various machine sounds for the hangars and mechanics, etc. etc. One of the airstrips on the West Coast I added the sounds of gulls and ship horns. As well, you can make the sounds season and time specific, e.g., crickets only starting up in the evening and not applicable when it is winter.

Sorry, no. Once I installed it, I deleted the downloaded file. You need to register in order to download from Flightsim. Once registered and logged-in, you can search for a specific file name (aisnz2.zip). It is still there - I just checked (it's about 8MB in size).Martin
