CYCD Nanaimo uncontrolled tower

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

Just bought ORBX PNW (on sale of course) and started flying Vancouver Island.

CYCD Nanaimo seems to have no ATC.  Is there a fix for this?

Thank you in advance,

Glenn

According to Airnav.com there is no tower at that airport.

CYCD is not a controlled airport. It has FSS service only. So PNW is correct although at FSS airports you can talk to the tower he's there for 'advisory' only

This is the same as my home airport, CYGK.

If you really want a tower frequency you can use AFD and add the radio frequency.

Thank you both.

I expected tower ATC with the Jazz flights in and out.

Regards,

Glenn

There are actually very few towers with ATC in BC, they are Vancouver CYVR, Vancouver Harbour CYHC, Victoria CYYJ, Comox CYQQ, Boundary Bay CZBB, Langley CYNJ, Abbotsford CYXX, Pitt Meadows CYPK, Kelowna CYLW and Prince George CYXS.

Many other airports have FSS on site and others are RCO (remote communications with FSS).
