Upgrade database with Jepp subscription

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I just bought the 530W and after going around the forums I've read that you can update the database with a Jeppesen subscription but I didn't find the way how.

Could anyone lighten me up on this regard?

Thank you very much

Regards

You would have to own a real GNS-530, and provide the serial number in order to subscribe to updates, and they are not cheap. A database containing both procedures and terrain data costs $500 per year, and that would include only North American airports. If you wanted a database with worldwide coverage like the Trainer has, it would cost well over $1000 per year.

Then I must have misunderstood the posts.

Thank you anyway

Yuriala,

Do you have a subscription to update a real world GNS 430/530 unit? If so it may be possible to update your RXP installation.

Mark

If you have a subscription it is easy to do.

I owned a real 530W for years and while Garmin required a serial number I subscribed direct to Jeppesen and never had to provide a serial number.

Yes, with Jepp I don’t think a serial number is required, but the cost is still extremely high, since the provided data is certified for use in real aircraft.

Depends on what you want - a worldwide database will be expensive, but, other than the serious rich who own jets etc most GNS/GTN users would only require a regional database. Also, I only ever subscribe to nav data even today with my GTN's - no need to update the other stuff in my case as I use a Pacific regional database. My current subscriptions are 2 x GTN Navdata, G500 Navdata & Jepp Charts. This sets me back about $1,200 AUD/year.

Guess it all boils down to how much you want, bearing in mind that worldwide databases don't include smaller airports due to storage size now.

That is true. I maintain two Falcon 900EX aircraft that have worldwide FMS data subscriptions. 4 years ago, the database included every airport with at least 1 instrument approach and a minimum runway length of 4000 feet. Now, because of the proliferation of new RNAV approaches, and hardware memory constraints, they have raised the minimum runway length to 5,500 feet, and it is likely to go to 6,000 feet soon.

Our only solution in the short term is to go to a regional FMS database.

As wonderful as the RXP GTN product is, probably aren’t too many simmers who could justify $500-1000 per year just to keep have the most current Nav data for that one product.
