747-8 Expansion Question

Featured Replies

After a series of hardware upgrades, I am finally at the point where I am ready (well, willing) to jump from FSX to P3Dv4. I was thinking that the  -8 would be a good debut for my P3D hangar. But then it occurred to me that my 747 QOTSII is the FSX version. I know the 747 QOTSII base package is a license for a specific platform. From Rob's 21Jan17 post: "Yes...  All of that in the base package...  As a single purchase.  The 747-8/8F will come to you as an expansion for this base package a bit later!" This begs the question: what is the scope of "expansion?" In other words, will I be able to purchase the -8 for P3D in tandem with by QOTSII (FSX) base, without purchasing "another" (P3Dv4) QOTSII 747 base package? Or must I buy the QOTSII P3Dv4 first?

You will have to get the 744 for P3D (and install it) to be able to fly the 748. so yes, you‘ll have to purchase the complete package (744+748) again for P3D

In the words of Lloyd Christmas, grrrriiipes.

I figured that was the case once I realized the issue, but figured it was worth the ask.

I am sure you won't be disappointed because they are both well worth it - and this includes the necessary upgrade to the 64bit version of P3D (v4.3).

Yup, gotta buy it again, due to complex legal issues I'm not gonna discuss here and it was all announced years ago. Welcome aboard P3D, I suggest you get tomato shade. Free and beautiful.

I funnily enough just switched from fsx to P3D a month or two ago. I have just rebought everything. The 737, 777, 744, and all the available expansions. This costed around $300. But I must say... Best investment I’ve ever done in my sim. Totally worth it. By flying P3D you’re gonna get some FPS back being on 64 bit and having the rainmaker is going to be magic for all of us using P3D. If there is a time to go to P3D, now is the time to do it. There is now going to be a lot more development in P3D rather than a 32 bit FSX. EX: Rainmaker and Trueglass, and much more in the future.

Hope this helps and may we both enjoy the new queen when she comes!

Cheers!

true..

I made the mistake to wait too long before I switched to P3D as there was a lot of discussion going on with their licenses and I bought many addons for FSX. When I finally made it to P3Dv3 I had to repurchase my A2A airplanes, PMDG, pay for other airplanes to be upgraded... but P3D is moving forward while FSX is about to die.. so the decision was right, but late.. And yes, it was expensive... 😲

I jumped the P3D when V4 arrived on the scene, and like you all, I bought everything over again. Since moving to P3D I have never gone back to FSX. I also think you should consider Orbx landclass and Vector. Wow.

Keep the shiny side up.

I was running FS9 for the longest time and only switched to FSX when the PMDG Boeing 747-400 V3 came out. Thus, when I moved to P3D V4 last March, the only things I had to re-purchase was the Boeing 747-400 and a few sceneries. Most of the sceneries I had could be used in both FSX and P3D V4, like FSDreamteam scenery, so I didn't have to worry about buying those all over again.

It's fair to say I got my moneys worth from both sims.
