Improving AI Traffic noise

Featured Replies

I've tried modifying some of the wav files in the FS9/Sounds folder, so as to increase the ambient traffic noise at airports. The sounds are a louder now, but they still don't really register until you are pretty close to the aircraft in question. In the real world, a jet taking off can be heard right across the whole airport of course. Is there any way to get the AI sounds to travel further, so that a/c taking off as I taxi nearby don't apparently do so in silence? Thanks,Martin

Modifying AI sound is difficult and limited to a few tweaks.Search for ai_traffic_soundsv3.zip in the Avsim library. This is a Word document by Andrew Berry that describes step-by-step what can be done. For mere ambiance, you might also want to download Enviro! or a similar program that simply runs in the background and plays a number of airport sounds.

This is a pet hate of mine. Yes as the guys have said, there's not much except some wav file tweaks you can do.Holding short of the runway and watching the 747 in front start its takeoff roll, I would love to hear that low rumble which goes right through you.

This is what you need for FS2004http://www.fshotseat.com/FsHotSFX

or just the fshotsfx part which just features AI Blast. I can recommend it if you want to hear and feel the power a 747 taking off.

Yes, I downloaded the trial version earlier, but am going away for a week or so from tomorrow, so won't get round to trying it out for a little while. Will let you know what I think...Martin

this amazing sound file gets little attention. here in the library:aisound_1.01.zipBy: Christian Neuburg, Airport Chat Developer TeamIt has great sounds for props and jets, plus reversers!!!

Hi. Thanks. I did have that file installed in fact, but found I got an even better effect by following the steps in ai_traffic_soundsv3.zipThe problem is still that the sounds, whatever they are (or even how loud they are up close), don't carry very far.M. :-)

Yes, with fsHOTsfx you can make numerous adjustments to sounds and decay time. When I first got it Iedited all the sounds to higher volume and adjusted to the slowest decay. The result was a very noisy airport with taking off 747s fading gradually into the distance, by which time my cans had blown their cones!! Since then, I've re-edited the soundfiles for a more realistic noise level. It was fun tho':-). I hope in FSX either fsHOTsfx will work or that FSX out of the box has AI sounds with spool up, reverse thrust etc!? I don't hold out much hope though.:-(

thats interesting - i never knew that fshotfx was available. Thanks for the tip, that will hopefully give me what i have been looking for. Are there settings that you have used to get the best sound? could you take screenprints?

>thats interesting - i never knew that fshotfx was available.>Which is kinda strange considering that I recommended it to you in your earlier thread where you searched for AI sound. well... sigh

hi krister - did you? ohh sorry, i must have skimmed it and that info had obviously not stayed in. cheers for that.Ande

Unfortunately, fsHOTsfx is not compatible with Radar Contact 4 (so the latter's website says), so I have to choose one or the other. Pretty sure it will be RC4; I'll have to live without realistic AI traffic sounds it seems ...M. :-(
