Hi Gerard, You are, of course, correct and much will depend on the effectiveness of the cooling solution/s employed. My overclocking journey started a couple of years ago when I configured DIP5 to overclock my i7-5960X on a per core basis. This resulted in an apparently stable overclock of Cores 0-3 at 4.7Ghz. Cores 4-7, I discovered, were clocked at 4.6Ghz. However, there were a few occasions at cold System Boot when the overclock failed to be applied, a message displayed advising that this had occurred and I should enter the UEFI BIOS to remedy matters. I complied, simply saved and exited without making any changes, and the subsequent Boot would be successful. At that stage temperatures were not a factor and thereafter the system would remain stable throughout a session no matter the loads presented to the CPU. Now, I have decided to settle for an all core overclock at 4.6Ghz and over the past couple of months there have been no more failures at System Boot. As expected, core temperatures, with HT=ON, continue to be held well below the thermal limit of the CPU. For example, following a run of RealBench (Win 10): Regards, Mike
January 13, 20197 yr Mike, my 7940X : 8 cores @ 4.8 GHz ( P3Dv4 ) and the other 6 cores @ 4.0 GHz ( Fs addons ) You might try using 6 cores for P3Dv4 ( AM ) and the other 2 for Fs addons. The addons do not need that much raw power so they might run at a lower speed. And it will help with lowering the heat. Perhaps you will have the change to run the P3Dv4 cores @ 4.7 GHz... 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0

Interesting you lock P3D to 30fps. The general consensus is unlimited is best especially with a monster 1080Ti. It could easily achieve double that fps. Ray (Cheshire, England). Hi Ray, The key is in the word 'example', i.e. how we would like Core/LP loading to appear. Core 0 is not maxed out and the remaining LPs appear relaxed in terms of load. Believe me I've tried all ways and 30fps locked without VSync seems to deliver the smoothest experience for the type of flying I enjoy most of the time. It's perhaps fortunate we have many options with which to experiment. In fact, for the duration of this exercise the 1080Ti usage did not rise above 50% which reflects my current fairly modest settings and my usual pragmatic approach to running this sim. Tomorrow might be different..lol Regards, Mike
