August 29, 200619 yr I'm hoping that my PC Power & Cooling 510 SLI p/s can handle a 2nd gen DX10 card that I will buy. If not, guess I'm getting 1000 watts.RhettAMD 3700+ powered by Gerbil wheel + gerbil, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 gigs Corsair TWINX, blah blah, etc. etc. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
August 30, 200619 yr 300W per card? Doesn't that mean 750+ watt supplies to run 2 SLI cards and the rest of the system? Looks like I'm going to get an 800W unit when I build my new machine.....
August 31, 200619 yr In theory, the Gen 2 DX10 cards shouldn't require as much power as the Gen 1 cards. Of course, all this is just talk. We won't know for sure how things stand till the cards actually start comming out and people start using them. One thing I have seen mentioned though is the idea of having video card specific PSUs."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."
August 31, 200619 yr Some above said, "If you plan to overclock, buy the quality RAM (~$400 for 2GB)"What does that mean "planning to overclcock"? Is it is someone plans to add several addon sceneries, etc that could reduce even more the performance from the default level or what is it?Please, sorry for me lacking enough knowledge or understanding of what's being said here.
August 31, 200619 yr Overclocking is the process of running a CPU, memory, or videocard at a higher clock rate (aka speed) then it was designed to run. It can be risky, but can improve preformance for those that use it. And by quality, I think the poster isn't just talking about speed, but brand. You probably don't want to try and overclock anything. It's risky and could actually damage your system if you don't fully understand how it all works."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."
September 1, 200619 yr You are right Michel (if I remember right) FSX will not really make use of dual cards(too bad it does really need all the help it can get from what ever hardware is installed on one's system), although one might be able to force AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering) in your cards set up (I can with my GeForce 7950's) but I am not sure if you can do that with every SLI or Cross Fire card out there. September 1, 200619 yr Author Hey guys, don't worry whether you got the latest 'whizz-bang' system to run FSX.If it dosen't FS9 is still blindingly good. The 'B.E.V' free download has transformed Seattle for me. I'm just waiting for the Europe scenery files to finish and bet FS9 will be even BETTER than FSX! Dave Taylor
