my beta d/l is only 8.2 GB not 8.4...difference?

Featured Replies

The fileplanet page says it should be 8.4 GB...I would hate to d/l this huge file only to be corrupt. Anyone else have a variable size or is 8.4 an approx?

That's correct.

Install it and find out! :)I think you're fine. ESPECIALLY if the ZIP file unpacks without an issue. -Greg

well its still downloading at home so I have to wait. I just didnt want to d/l that big file for nothing. Also what makes me nervous is I chose to download the first time and it started downloading a 214MB beta client. I knew this was wrong so I was curious why they would post a corrupted file on their download servers. Thanks for the replies. I guess I will see when I get home!

I guess I will see when I get home!I was only getting the 214mb corrupt beta client until I downloaded the Fileplanet Download Manager. Not sure what it does but with the Download Manager its 8.21 GB. My download is almost done. Its saying I have another 22 minutes. I have seen dowload speeds as low as 300KB/S but has high as 650 KB/S. When you hit the high peaks it sure makes a huge difference. I should have had the file earlier but my computer crashed. So I hope the file is not currupt.

I first downloaded the big file and it somehow got corrupted, just finished downloading and installing the 4 smaller files, and it works great now.

yeah, I downloaded the manager too and then I didnt get the 214MB corrupted file again. I shouldve been using a D/L manager anyway with a file this big.

Had no trouble with their DL Manager, didn't turn off AV or Firewall.Came down in Verizon FIOS DSL in about 2 1/2 hours. As far as the size - depends upon what you use to measure it:The file will probably take 8.4 GB of space on your hard drive, but actually be only about 8.2GB of actual data if your drive is set in 4K or 8K sector sizes. The download size might say 8.2 GB - which is their measure of the number of bytes to be sent down - but 8.4 GB might include the checksum upload traffic - the total amount of bandwidth to get the package.I would't worry about such a "discrepancy" just check the finished file to see if it will unzip.

wow 2 1/2 hours on DSl..I have 6MB cable and about 30 minutes into the download and approx 7 GB to go it was telling me 2 1/2 hours so that would clock me at 3 hours...thats some pretty darn fast DSL you got there. My d/l speed is clocking around 500-800Kb a sec.

There is a lot less general internet traffic at 1 am central time than now.For big downloads the bottleneck is usually not the computer or internet connection on either end with a service like you have - but the routers on the web.

I'm getting slow speeds here too (UK), I usually get decent speeds from fileplanet but not at present and I've tried all servers (yes even the UK server is crawling :( ). Does anybody know if there are any mirrors up anywhere, usually 3dgamers provide beta downloads (part of IGN also)?I can't imagine the amount of times I've stopped/started/changed server during the past x hours... lol

Verizon FiOS is very fast and has big time bandwidth. I have the service and love it. Multi-gigabyte file are no match for FiOS :-)>wow 2 1/2 hours on DSl..I have 6MB cable and about 30 minutes>into the download and approx 7 GB to go it was telling me 2>1/2 hours so that would clock me at 3 hours...thats some>pretty darn fast DSL you got there.
