August 26, 200619 yr I have been looking for some discussion of what I consider to be an absolutely great new feature of FSX......the ability to save and load PROFILES. :D If this has been discussed before I sure did miss it, as I have searched here as well as three other sites without so much as a mention of it. This is an absolute Godsend to those of us who don't have the latest and greatest in equipment. Am I the only one who thinks that this nifty little feature is the greatest thing since they put a head on beer???:-jumpy Well I for one would like to extend my thanks to the ACES team for including this GREAT utility feature. WELL DONE GUYS!:-beerchug Denny Retired Professional Tourist
August 26, 200619 yr I mentioned it but who knows how far back in these novel length threads it is.It will really help with things like working airport parking, and very busy airports, where I can have different scenery settings saved and recallable.Always a pain to try and reset back after making changes to test something.
August 26, 200619 yr Actually, this is not entirely new. In FS9, you could have an alternate fs9.cfg file located in the root of the FS2004 path and called as an arguement to the fs9.exe. I don't remember the exact syntax but it was something like "fs9.exe -config alternate_config_file.cfg". FSX adds a GUI front-end to this process and for that, I am greateful as well.Regards,AL | KCHS - Charleston AFB/Intl | USAF 437AW (~53 C-17's)FS9/Game Rig:AMD64-4000+ SanDiego OC=210/420/2520 | Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe | Corsair TwinX2048-3200C2PT (2x1GB) 2.5-3-3-8/[email protected] | Evga NV 7900GT v91.31 (1280x1024x32/4xAA/16xAF/High-Quality) | Enermax 550W PSU | Thermalright XP-120(mm) HSF | NV 1GB LAN | NV SATA-I Raid-0 223GB (3x80GB Samsung) (WinXPx64/Games) | NV SATA-II WD 320GB (Backups) | IDE-0 80GB Samsung (Archive) | Realtek AC'97 5.1 Surround | CH Yoke, TQ, & Pedals | FS9.1 (Settings max'd/60-40Vis/No-Shadows/20FPS) | WideFS v6.7 | FSUIPC v3.7 | FSGenesis Mesh (All) | PMDG (All) | PAI (All) | FSBuild2 | EtcFS9 Support Rig:AMD3200+ | Gigabyte GA-7NNXP | Leadtek NV 5900 | Corsair TwinX1024-3200 (2x512MB) | Intel 1GB LAN | SiI3112 SATA-I 80GB Samsung | IDE-0 80GB IBM | JustCom 4port KVM | FS Wide Client | ActiveSky v6 (512x512x32bit / Wx Influanced)| Radar Contact v4.2 | FS Real Time | FS Flight Keeper | FS Commander | AI Smooth Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
August 26, 200619 yr Multiple configurations upon startup - yes.But these profiles can be changed and loaded within FSX without exiting the game.
August 26, 200619 yr Understood, and agree. The new GUI buttons to automate this is welcomed indeed...:-beerchug Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
August 26, 200619 yr Moderator >Multiple configurations upon startup - yes.>>But these profiles can be changed and loaded within FSX>without exiting the game. The next "logical step" in the further development of this would be the ability to have the "profile switching" happen automatically and seamlessly while continuing to fly... ;)Imagine having the flight begin with "dense-ground/sparse-sky" and automatically switch through several steps to "sparse-ground/dense-sky" as one climbs to cruise altitude... then reverse the process while descending on arrival. August 26, 200619 yr Author LAGO's original version of FS Assist had this feature - can't remember if it was for FS98 or FS2000 - but it would automatically adjust various display settings based on the current frame rate. They couldn't carry it over to the next version of FS, and it's something I've missed for a long time.Flight Assignment: ATP also had a similar feature - you could hit a hotkey to switch between various different configurations - there was one for "max scenery", one for "max framerates" (only the airport polygon and runways, IIRC), and one inbetween. The config file settings are a great feature!Mark Mark Lam
