August 12, 200619 yr Hello friends,Having seen screenshots and videos, FSX looks amazing specially the water effect (reflection) and global texturing and dynamic objects (love it)and Iransim Administrator Microsoft Flight Simulator Add-on Developer Since 1998 Robert Goddard said: It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.
August 12, 200619 yr These issues have been mentioned so often that i'm sure MS is aware of these wishes. The question is: is it possible to still code these features within the little time they still have? I don't think so..The problem with the clouds is that they're actually just a bunch of 'sprites' (flat billboards) configured in such a way that they look like a 3-d cloud. Now if you would render a shadow from just that object, all you'd get is a weird collection of lines and strange shapes which doesn't look like a cloud shadow at all.So they'd have to come up with a way to kindof fake the shadow. They'd have to find a way of finding out how big a single cloud is and what shape it's trying to suggest, and then draw that shadow on the ground. This seems to be a difficult process.I may be wrong, but this is what i imagine to be the problem.
August 12, 200619 yr What about recognising the fact that the visibility issue *has* been fixed in FSX. Clouds 3d or not look bloody crap if they don't have some atmosphere (haze) around them in even in relatively hi vis conditions. Now haze doesn't suddenly disappear when you climb out of it. It remains down below and looks much more realistic. For that I am truly grateful. . . Amen! If I see one more screenshot accompanying an addon with unlimited visibilty I shall scweam and scweam and scweam!!!!!!!!!!!!x( x( x( x(
August 12, 200619 yr HiI am sure that it is possible technically in directx9 as I did something like this a year ago using direct x9 and vb.net.Microsoft has had 2 years time. Isn't it enough? And if they are aware of that why they don't react by fixing that??regardTouradg Iransim Administrator Microsoft Flight Simulator Add-on Developer Since 1998 Robert Goddard said: It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.

It looks really good. Climbing out in a storm is really slick.
August 12, 200619 yr //sarcasm mode on//Well...I guess you could do it for them if you only were a member of the programming team. Why don
August 12, 200619 yr Hi,I believe it's been confirmed that there will be no cloud shadows nor volumetric clouds in FSX. The feature complete point is already past, so the chance of adding things so major is extremely low. FS11...Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
