Is There AI in FSX?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if there is AI landing in the Demo? If there is, would you please post the specifics such as airport, date and time. I would prefer commercial jet aircraft. Thanks,SD

I haven't seen any AI land yet in FSX but if you turn your AI up to 100% then you will see some take off. Just go to TNCM, that's where you're most likely to see the jets.

The CRJ is the only jet in the demo.I did see a baron take off, but haven't seen any landings yet.

If you watch the intro video thing (which you can access from the learning center) you will see a CRJ land. And it lands rather badly...

If you do the CRJ mission, you'll see a 747 take off just after you land.Gary

I saw the 747 on the ground when I did the RJ mission. Never saw it take off. I decided to sit on a taxiway and put the sim in x4 for over half of the demo time cycle but never saw a plane take off or land. Both commercial and ga were at 100%. SD

I saw a Baron (or rather the red text label) once when flying, but the timer ran out soon after so I didn't see it land. I did see it on the ground though in other sessions. (Right click and you should see the plane listed in the menu, selecting it will center your view on the plane.)"Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."

The reason you see so few AI is the small number of aircraft, small number of airports, short runways and the short distances between airports. The traffic database is very limited in the demo. It will be check full o' stuff in the final product. ;)

Actually, the fact that the traffic density seems to be set at 21 and for some reason, at least in my case, trying to change it via the slider and then saving a config doesn't seem to change that. (I saved two files, one with the traffic slider maxed, according to the little preview image, and one with it at minimum. Both said the same thing for airline and GA traffic.) I manually raised the airline and GA traffic density to 100 in one config file, loaded it up, and found more traffic in the list then I usually see.I saw one Baron takeoff (at an airport with a runway 25) at about 13:00, and another one land (high as a kite as the saying goes) at TNCM a bit later. (I used 4x TC watching the first baron till I heard the other Baron's radio call at TNCM.)The demo timed out before the second one got to it's parking spot, but it's runway exiting behavior was very odd, it skipped a bunch of taxiways to exit near the opposite end of the runway, only to end up turning around (taxiing on the grass and through a taxiway sign) and taxied back nearly the length of the runway again to get to it's parking spot."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."

I did see the 747 take off, mountains are no problem for a 747, it hit the mountain but came out on the other side lol.

Well at least a/c damage isn't modeled

I've seen some WinAir Islanders and LIAT Dash 8's so far.Yes I did copy over FS9 aircraft and flight plans.Haven't seen a full flight yet - need to try TNCM-TFFJ - that should complete during the time limit. Also want to setup a flight for the CRJ - TNCM-TAPA is too long for the demo timer - Maybe St. Kitts to Antigua as VFR.So far it looks like jets will not pushback from the parking spots - they get clearance but do not move.Props do push back and taxi out. Some folks have tested using FS2004 AFCAD files with parking modified to be head out - with success.I've seen reports of good landings by the AIA B752 at TNCM.

tdragger,Will FSX include landing AI reverse thrust sound? That is one reason I have been looking for landing aircraft info in the Demo. Curious if MS included that feature in FSX.Regards,SD

Each aircraft now has it's own configurable SOUNDAI folder and sound.cfg file. That's a biggie - rather than just general sounds for types of aircraft.
