August 9, 200619 yr Enough said. What is this world coming to when charging for a demo. Man anything to try and make a buck.I hope none of you get suckered into that.
August 9, 200619 yr >Enough said. What is this world coming to when charging for a>demo. Man anything to try and make a buck.I hope none of you>get suckered into that.Who said that was, in fact, kidding you.I would suggest going back, re-reading the Gamespot page regarding the demo, and then trying again. It's a simple mistake, anyone could have made it. Many did.
August 9, 200619 yr >OK never read it. If i am wrong i will be the first to admit>it! srryGamespot, like fileplanet and a couple other sites have subscriber deals where if you pay a monthly fee, you get priority access to no-wait "high-speed" servers, where as other people may (and probably will) get stuck into a download queue.
August 9, 200619 yr >That's what you get when 14 years old kids have permission to>open new threads..>For a 14 year old, he was awfully mature about the possibility that he was mistaken.Besides, considering the threads that the 40-60 year old crowd makes around here, it's not really all that unusual.
August 9, 200619 yr THANK YOU FOR CLEARING THIS ISSUE UP! Everyone thinks Gamespot is out to rob them of their money. While you may not be able to access their high speed servers, you can still just register (for a tremendous website) and download for free. I suppose the frontpage news on AVSIM didn't help too much, but I'm sure if people do their homework, they will be pleasantly surprised to see that Gamespot is offering this demo for free.
August 9, 200619 yr >I>suppose the frontpage news on AVSIM didn't help too much, but>I'm sure if people do their homework, they will be pleasantly>surprised to see that Gamespot is offering this demo for>free.Yeah, I think that front page story was written by a 14 year old. What's the deal with making an announcement like that? I have been a gamespot member for many years and I have never given them a dime or so much as clicked on a banner ad. In that time I have downloaded many game demos, most recently within the last month. I can assure you that there is no reason to pay for access. Just sign up as a free member. IMO, that front page posting is irresponsible, and will cost many people money for nothing. On top of it Gamespot will make a killing.
August 9, 200619 yr Whomever wrote that front page article might be 14, or had a few "beverages" already! j/k

While I will agree that the front page did not go into details regarding the ability of free downloads for anyone who happens to be a non paying member, it is not nice to come here and attack Avsim with a whole 17 posts under one's belt. I am glad that you enjoy your bandwidth "free" downloads etc but your personal ad homin was way out of line. If someone cannot go to Gamespot and figure it out on their own then they will be the only one to blame.........................Randy J. Smith................CAUTION! August 9, 200619 yr Exactly... and "high-speed" is exactly that too... the queued servers usually are much slower. I don't expect to be playing the demo until _Thursday_ night.
August 9, 200619 yr >>> it is not nice to come here and attack Avsim with a whole 17 posts under one's belt.I dislike this ' old boys ' mentality.Exactly how many posts are required for one to have an opinion ?I've been a lurker here for over five years and use Avsim daily for FS related info. A low post count may not mean new user.two cents worthcheersGreghttp://www.fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpg

I wasn't going to respond but I just can't help myself. Allow me to introduce myself, I'm John, formerly wakeboarder82 on avsim and other flightsim sites. I have been a member hear for several years. Last winter something happened to my account so I re-registered. I have been using flight sim since version 3.0. I'm no noob (I think that's what you were implying). I am proud of the fact that I only have 17 posts. To me it says, I only post when I feel there is something constructive to say. My post in this thead was meant to help people, not bash on anyone. I realize it came off as a bit anti avsim, but I can assure you that I was only expressing my shock that one of my favorite and most trusted sites would post misleading info that could impact peoples wallets. What I stated was backed up with the facts of my personal experiences...woops look at the time! GTG
August 10, 200619 yr Well hello John. My point was simply that calling the person who dedicates their free time to help out our friends at Avsim deserves not to belittled by implying that he was "14" because he wrote something at best incorrect but done for us to have the information about the demo. Stating that this information was ideed incorrect is totally ok, just leave out the personal asumptions etc. And the 17 post thing was something I could have left out too, sorry for that................Randy J. It's just there are in fact many who are in fact low posters who start out on the wrong foot, but this is no excuse for me using it against anyone. Sorry if I offended anyone over this................Randy J. Smith................CAUTION! My views represent no one but my own.
