New 38" monitor for P3d v4 // 2019 Help / Comments requested

Recommended Posts

@Buzz71, before you visit retailers download some high quality images from the web and put them on a USB stick. Make sure they’re JPGs.

3840*2160, 3840*1600 and 3840*1440. Then ask the shop to show each depending on the resolution of the monitor you’re assessing.

This is a good site.

@pete_auau, with a 1080Ti you’ll have no problems. Your CPU seems to be missing a number. i7-8700K perhaps?

And that link doesn’t work.

Ignore, Ray as I have just seen a sideways view profile and there is no way I'd fit that on my desk.

How could I possibly compare to you when I've only bought 3 monitors in the last 10 years? 😁

I was wondering this as well.

Is that the Dell Ultrasharp U3818DW?

Yes. The resolution is 3840 x 1600. Basically its like a 47" 4k monitor cut in half. Which is another reason I bought it over a 34", more resolution.

If you do go for a 34" do NOT get the 1080p ones to save money, the image will be stretched and text will look horrible. They have one at my local Costco and they look nothing like my 38".

But like others have said if you can go look at a few before you buy, then you can make up your on mind.

What I did was bring a laptop with me and plug in to different size monitors to make a better decision.

Great monitor but my issue was it would not run at 30hz.  If u have the room definitely go for a 38 inch.  The 34 inch ultra wides lack just enough vertical screen area to be annoying.  Check out an Acer XR382CQK.  Great sim monitor.  LG 38’s I have heard are good but I have no personal experience with one.

So I went in tonight and the retailer didn’t have many but they did have the Acer in both 34 and 38 inch models. I’m sold on the 38 - the extra height was noticeable and looked great.  So it’s really a decision between that or the LG.

Assuming my 1070 with run both of them. Unfortunately they are FreeSync not Gsync monitors.

Nvidia with its latest drivers allows for FreeSync compatibility.  I’m not totally convinced with its implementation though.  When I have time today I will give it a try and report back.
