Assigned Controller Settings Not Reliable

Featured Replies

I have FSX-SE and Saitek / Logitech Controllers.  Every now and again something stops working as expected: throttles don't respond, brakes don't work etc.  When I open "Settings" and look through the assignments for the various controllers I find some new assignments have appeared.  For example brakes, which were assigned to the rudder pedals, have suddenly got a button assignment on the yoke or the throttle quadrant.  I go through all the controllers and delete all 'random' assignments, so there are no theoretical conflicts, and all is well (for a while).  How / why is this happening, anyone?

Keep the kids/grandkids away from the computer!  Maybe an addon of some kind is having an affect?

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱

Make sure that you have the power management options disabled for your USB ports.  In Control Panel look at all your USB hubs and for anything with a "Power Management" tab, turn off (uncheck) any "allow Windows to turn off this device to save power" options.  If you're using windows 10, it has a nasty way of turning those power management options back on whenever it does an update.  If the controller drops out because Windows turned the port off after a period of inactivity and then reappears later, FSX will often automatically make a bunch of default axis assignments, handling it as a newly-added controller.

One way to get a handle on it is by assigning your controls via FSUIPC (the full payware version), which allows controls to be assigned in a way (by letter) that won't change when controllers are removed and then reconnected.

If this is the Win 10 update issue I refer to, it's important to check your USB hubs in Control Panel after every Windows update, and turn those "allow Windows to turn off this device to save power" options back off.

Thank you Bob and Charlie

Windows 10 has just done an update.  I went through the Device Manager and unchecked all the USB Hubs that had "allow Windows to turn...etc, etc".  There were several.  Hopefully that's sorted it.  I have a fully paid FSUIPC but (embarrassed) I don't really understand how to use.  Thanks again.

Hello everybody ... I'm running windows 7 64 bit.  I checked the settings to see if anything was causing a conflict ... so far I haven't found anything.  What ever it is  ... both computers that I have FSX SE on has the same problem ... both are running windows 7.  Both have the CH Products Pedals.  Normally I fly helicopters so the brake being on is no big deal.  But I like to fly the missions and some have me flying the helicopter and a fixed wing aircraft, and that's when the problem comes in.  The FSUIPC is a program I don't understand.

FSX/XP11 Rig:Intel i7 4770k @3.5Ghz_ECS_H87H3-WM_16Gb DDR3 1600_Win7 64_GTX 1050Ti 4GB GPU

XP10 Rig:AMD Ryzen 7 1700_MSI_B350 Gaming_16Gb DDR4 2133_Win7 64_GTX 550 1GB GPU

Try, with all desired controllers plugged in, hitting the Resault Defaults buttons on the FSX controller settings.  Then close the sim normally (to ensure settings are saved).  Run it again, assign controllers normally, and try flying again.  If you get the same problems still it is likely FSUIPC have controls assigned that overrides FSX's controls.  I only use one keypress function for it so I wouldn't know the first thing to reset everything without reading the manual, which is included with the FSUIPC download.
