Yes, an exotic trip to this destination (Lord Howe), in the Short "Pacific Chieftain"!

Also, just learned, about the 2 beautiful mountain peaks (Mount Lidgbird and Mount Gower), captured so nicely in your shot(s), with the dark clouds hanging over them...Looks lovely!

Ah...Nostalgia, remember as a kid watching these take off from Rose Bay in Sydney Harbour to Lord Howe. Qantas also did this run in flying boats as well as to Norfolk Island.

I remember  too.  

I was lucky enough to fly to Lord Howe on the Sandringham 3 times in the sixties!

I used to explore, and climb into the nose and feel the blast of air coming in through gaps in the mooring cover.  (No security in those days)

Visited the cockpit during flight a few times too.  Climbed up into the dome where they would have used a sextant for navigation in earlier times. I got a 360 view over the top of the airplane.

I used to love the tiny packets of lifesavers (just 3 pieces) to help you clear your ears during ascent and descent.

Separate cabin compartments were more like a train than a plane.  Nice big windows too. Water spray would completely engulf the window during takeoff and landing.

Had to disembark onto a boat at Lord Howe.

Gone are those days of such (security un-encumbered) travel...will be missed by those who experienced it...
