VR Performance P3D

I one of my issues is when I used the AIG tool for AI traffic - I never set the min/max.  So I was always 100% traffic.  Surprisingly in 2d - not as much of a hit as I thought there would be.  Between full off and max traffic is only about a 5fps hit for me.  What that equates to in VR I didnt test but I got the sim feeling pretty smooth on the ground at BOS in the FSL bus.  I'm going to give a flight a go again tomorrow in VR and see how it goes.

Hows one set this up?  Is this the min/max cloud distance?

Im about to start my testing.  Dropped clouds to 512 DXT.

HI Brett and Pegruder. In Active Sky you set the min/max cloud draw distance. Active Sky will change it based on what it thinks will minimise frame hit. I have my min down at 60nm and max at 90nm. ASCA cloud textures have excellent settings for VR. Cloud cover set to performance and use 256 res DXT. I wouldn't bother with 512 you will find that in some scenarios you will get stutters.

Also recommend FFTF dynamic tool which will dynamically adjust fiber fraction which makes a significant difference for VR. Set fiber to 0.01 on the ground and up to 0.33 in the air.

Ahh - I forgot about FFTF after I reformatted.  Gotta get that going again.  So I also use Rex skyforce which is why I was having a hard time finding the 256 res...  I setup ASCA @ 256DXT and set SF to the lowest which was 512DXT I believe.  So far 2d performance is pretty good.  Still gotta get back in VR again.

Side question - I notice folks have mentioned 'single pass'  What option is this?  I just changed to single and I get about another 6-7fps in sim now.

Single pass is a P3D menu item under virtual reality.  If you have installed Fly Inside then the VR menu will not show across the top.  You can get it to reappear by reinstalling the P3D client

Oh its there - Im mainly wondering what the difference is?  I tried researching but couldn't find info on it.  Seemed to boost performance for me by alot.  Actually about to start a flight now and see how it is during a flight and not seated at a gate.

I believe single pass renders the the scene as a single viewport then takes a portion of that viewport (I assume with some overlap) and sends it to each side of the headset.  I believe the regular  method renders two viewports

Ah - that would make sense on the extra performance hit.  So far I have to say - Departing BOS with some decent cloud cover was pretty darn smooth.  Had a smile ear to ear as I rotated away from the runway.  VR really gives you that being pushed back in your seat feeling when you takeoff even though your not moving - it's nuts!

Yes indeed, A well running VR setup can definitely put a smile on your face.  Glad you got your settings all straightened out and working well

Only issues I need to sort out which arent performance related are being able to use my standard headset - and stopping my vive pro from disconnecting lol.  Stupid thing randomly disconnects (which usually causes whatever Im doing to crash) when its on wireless for some reason although its usually really rare or when its been on for awhile.  Its a pain to switch the wiring around to go from wireless to wired. Wired its always rock solid.

I only have it setup with the wired connection so I have no experience on this front.

The wireless is beyond amazing for experiences where you move around, mil-sims, fighting, ect.  Unnecessary for a seated experience, but too much hassle to keep switching lol.

Is there a way of displaying FPS through the VR headset or is it only visible on the monitor?
