From XP11 to FSX?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been playing XP11 for few weeks already. I really enjoy it but there is one aspect which makes me consider purchasing FSX SE. That is ATC/flight planning feature. In XP11 I use addon for that purpose called 124th ATC. It performs its jobs well. However its dosent show taxi path (like arrows in FSX) during take off and landing. I don't plan to use IVAO so I need ATC/flight planning feature to be really good. I wouldn't mind also to plan my flights straight from build in system, without using Simbrief. So that is the main reason why I think about it.

Also there are missions which add immersion when you are playing single.

However in XP I adore its payware aircraft - attention to details and payware sounds packs of Toliss 319 or FF320 are mind blowing. Is there anything close to those aircrafts in XP11 in terms of immersion, sounds, graphics (interior and exterior), fly model? If yes, I might consider transfering from one sim to another.

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi There

I have been using FSX for the past 6 years and have dabled a bit in X-Plane. I use the default ATC and while it can be a little bit cranky at times for a default it is pretty good. My understanding is that it does not support SIDS and STARS but I think there are add on products that do offer this.

As for flight planning i regulaly use Simbrief and import the file straight into the SIM or if you just want to fly direct you can use the built in flight planner. Re aircraft you are spoilt for choice , if tubeliners are your thing you have the 737/747 from PMDG or Airbus A318/319/320/321 from areosoft which should be more than enough to keep you happy. And for GA you have A2A and also Just flight.

Add a weather engine and some replacement ground textures such as ORBX global then you are good to go.

Of course there is no reason why you cannot continue to use X-Plane in addition to FSX SE

kind regards

Or, you might wait and see what pans out with the new Microsoft Flight Sim before you start with FSX and spend money on addons for it. Or even consider P3D since a lot of developers are not making newer addons for FSX anymore and are now concentrating on P3D.

I made a deliberate decision to "return" to FSX-Steam rather than install XPlane or P3D.

In fact, my hand hovered over the "buy now" button over at LM - but then I realized I'd be spending additional thousands of $$$$ to upgrade my hardware - because buying the newest and greatest sim always puts you on the neverending hardware upgrade cycle (and you'll never be able to max out your sim).

Didn't like how the XPlane demo looked and ran on my PC.

So FSX-Steam it was, which I had bought a long time ago via a Steam sale.

Advantages:

1. No need to ever worry about upgrading your hardware. My 4 year old PC runs FSX Steam just fine.
2. Add-on availability is limited. This is a good thing, since it forces me to actually use the stuff I bought, rather than always hankering for the newest and shiniest.
3. Still, there are literally tens of thousands perfectlyf fine and even great addons available for FSX - both freeware and payware.
4. PMDG, Aerosoft, QW, etc. - still available for FSX. Sure, the FSLabs A320 is probably a lot better than the Aerosoft version, the former also costs a pretty penny, sure, the left-hydraulic duct ventilation system is probably modeled more accurately, but will I really care? Nah. I bought the Aerosoft bus; not the newest and greatest, and it works just fine. And pushing $$$ worth of pixels around while sitting in your chair isn't any more realistic than pushing around $$ worth of pixels. No matter what the marketing departments try to tell you.😉

Disadvantages:

1. The VAS-limitation is probably the biggest drawback. But you learn to work around that. At any rate, I consider this to be a first world problem.
2. Sure, I won't be able to take advantage of the shiny new lighting effects in P3D - and the fact that now the wind socks move correctly with the breeze.

To be honest, leaving the VAS-problem aside for the moment, I don't see much of a difference between how FSX and how P3D looks.

If you fly in Germany, here is, for example, an outstanding small freeware airport:
