Sorry, ... monitor 27" (request for help)

Featured Replies

I changed the monitor a few days ago to a monitor with G-Sync function.
But it's broken and I can get a refund.
And that's why I am asking for help.
- I need a 27 "monitor (it can't be bigger !!!)
- definitely G-Sync (I checked and it makes a big difference)

My question is basically about resolution.

Is HD (1920x1080) or QHD (2560 x 1440) ???

Does buying QHD with 27 "make sense ???
Can you see the difference in image quality in XP ???
And won't it lower FPS in XP ???

Just the difference in price between HD and QHD is significant, so I wonder if it's worth it: if the QHD image quality will be much better than HD ??? (4K I do not consider because of the price and size 27").

I am asking for help, because I have to make a decision quickly.

For comparison:

I have an i9 9900k , GTX 1080ti and 32GB RAM and with the ToLiss A319 I get around 45 to 50 FPS with World Traffic 3 & ASXP running. All graphics sliders to the right except for reflections.

With my i7 6700K I got around 25 with all sliders to the right.

My monitor is Acer Predator 34" with G-Sync 3440x1440 resolution. With my older 32" FULL HD monitor I get around 90 FPS

Higher resolution means more pixels to push means less FPS.

... but the image quality I hope is worth it?

I doubt you will see much better image quality in X-Plane, maybe viewing photo images or for working with Photoshop but not really for games. You would be better off buying the FULL HD monitor in my opinion but only you can decide that.

The higher it is the better it is but it also means a price hike. It's all a balancing act so make your choice carefully because, in the end, you are the one who is going to live with it. "

"I have both 24" and 27 "4K / UHD displays, and the difference between 1080/1440 / 2160p is stark and stunning as rez goes up, especially at the extremes. Assuming you have normal vision, and that you are sitting at a typical desktop viewing distance, then yes, you should notice the difference too, even between 1080 and 1440. The degree of image quality you will see in XP depends upon how critical your eye is, settings, monitor quality, and of course, the underlying XP art assets in use. "

And you recommend buying HD (I buy mainly with XP in mind) ...
Now I know again that I know nothing .... 😉

Go to the nearest IT/electronics shop, search for a 27'' QHD monitor and a 27'' FHD monitor on display, and judge by yourself if the higher price for the QHD is worth for you. That's the best thing to do, since it's a subjective matter.

I gave my opinion 😉 Do with that what you may. If you have your heart set on a QHD monitor go with it however pay the price twofold in FPS and price. For me money was no object but I cannot look  into other peoples finances so I upgraded to i9 9900K, best upgrade since my 1080ti 🙂

I also gamed on a 49" 4K TV, it worked fine and looked great but I had to dial all my settings down. The thing is, do you want to spend extra on a higher res monitor with better image quality if you are going to have to dial down your graphics settings to get a decent FPS?  I'll leave that with you.

And what Murmur above say's view it yourself live at a computer store and you will get a better idea and feeling of the difference.

I return to the topic again. 🙂
I am currently testing such a monitor: AOC AGON AG271QG. (2560x1440 @ 144Hz; G-Sync)
Everything, except XP, is more beautiful and better than full HD.
In XP, it's not that great anymore. 😞
The image is noticeably better (especially the cockpit indicators are clearer), but:
- FPS dropped significantly (I have setting sliders on the right, just like I had at 1080p)
- changing the AA settings from 8x SSAA + FXAA to 4x SSAA + FXAA helps a little the situation with FPS, but the XP still looks better with the AA 8x setting.
I still have some time to think about and possibly return the monitor, and I'm wondering whether or not to return to the 1920x1080 resolution. ???
On the other hand, it's a pity, because working with this monitor (except XP) is very pleasant.
Or maybe leave the monitor and wait for the "miracle" that will make Vulcan ??? 😉

The image quality gains of QHD are marginal. The HD display is the way to go, because there will be less strain on your GPU, and it's also cheaper. 1080p is absolutely sufficient at 27", consider it's a resolution created for much larger displays, such as a 55" HDTV. For X-Plane, I'd always recommend the largest 1920x1080 display one can afford. You may also look for TV's, especially Sony TV's excel here. But by now, most of them will be 4K.

Currently giving X-Plane 12.10 a spin on Shadow PC. 10 years with X-Plane now, since 10.20

If you're backing down in resolution, you could also try a 1920x1200 monitor like the one I use. A little more vertical space lets me see more of the cockpit instruments for the same angle of view through the windscreen. I like this aspect ratio better for strategy games too; it slightly reduces the amount of scrolling around a tactical or strategic map when you can see a little more of it. The hit on your GPU is minimal, going from 1080 to 1200 vertical.
