August 15, 20196 yr My last card was GTX970. This ran P3Dv4 pretty well. I have just updated it to a GTX1070ti. On paper this should be a huge improvement, but it is not. In fact I think the 970 was better. Now the 970 had 2x6 pin and the 1070ti uses an 8 pin fed by a 6+2 pin, all from 650w supply. This I believe is correct. The only other variable is that mobo has PCIe 2.0 x 16, whereas the GPU needs a 3.0 x 16 . What else can cause the poor performance. I am on Win 10 . Thanks in advance John
August 15, 20196 yr Whenver you add a new graphics card, you should delete the shaders. Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. August 15, 20196 yr Author Thankyou for your reply, but I have done that and tried the latest drivers, re-installing the v4 client and cfg. So far no improvement.
August 15, 20196 yr What processor have you got? Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry. August 15, 20196 yr Hmm, you might need to balance your GPU with your CPU - a good match is the i7 4790K - I currently had the i52500K on FSX before, but for P3D V4 it might be a bit weak (even at 4.5 Ghz) https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-2500K/2384vs619 Edited August 15, 20196 yr by Jude Bradley Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. August 15, 20196 yr What do CPU and GPU utilization look like when running P3D? If the main thread (usually CPU core 0) is bumping up against 100%, you're CPU-bound, and frame rate performance won't improve with a better GPU. You may be able to get better image quality with more aggressive AA, but not better frame rates in that case. Several computers back I had a GTX980 on an i7-2600K at 4.6GHz and it was definitely CPU-bound in P3D v3. August 15, 20196 yr 6 hours ago, Jaroberts said: My last card was GTX970....I have just updated it to a GTX1070ti. Did you use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) when changing the 970 to 1070Ti? DDU has the option to do a complete, clean uninstall of GPU drivers, and then shut down the computer for the card swap. DDU can be found here Also, if the cards are from different manufacturers it's generally a good idea to install the drivers that came with the new card. AIB manufacturers sometimes will add code to the driver package they include with a new card. Greg
August 16, 20196 yr Author A complete reinstallation of the latest Nvidia drivers was carried out and it does not change the fps. So I think I shall have to invest in a new processor such as the i74790k .and motherboard. Thanks for all the comments John
