Google Earth vs FS X

Featured Replies

Have just put a little comparison together between a FSX screenshot and the same scene from google earth.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/139312.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/139313.jpgYou'll be able to see for yourselves but the ressemblance is amazing!Coast lines, major roads, trees, etc. Everything seems to be well placed and we seem to be getting closer to reality. Excellent work MS!JCMK

Great comparison. Indeed, FSX is becoming more realistic in terms of its geophysical setup. The only difference is the tall buildings on the right.Graham

Yes, poor Timmy has no place to play ball now...blast you Corporate America with your Starbucks and Wal-marts!! Anyone want to take a comparison shot of FS9 with UT and the FSX shot to see how those two look side by side.

Looks great!

I think they used my idea! :) Why not take satellite photos, make a program that can look at the image and place trees in the treed area, put buildings where they go, etc.. Almost looks like they did something similar! :D

Heres what the same place looks like on my setup. This is with Ultimate Terrain, Bev Summer Textures, FS Genesis Mesh and FS Genesis Landclass.Dont think theres anything else. Oh, Ultimate Terrain has residential roads switched off.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/139341.jpg

Thanks chukmale,Well when you compare the google with the FSX, FS9 with UT BEV etc and the FS9 default screen it is plain to see that all but the FS9 default do a good job.If you were to remove the coast line and water and just zoom in on the land and its features it would be hard to agree that the FS9 default was the same location compared to the google. The other two (FSX and FS9 maxed out with add-ons) you would be able to say its the same spot easily. If FSX is like this as far as auto-gen, roads and coast lines globally then the out of the box version is going to be such an easy transfer for those of us who use FS9 with these add-ons and enhancements. The only question left on my mind is if FSX will have the great night lighting UT does over the roads. I really do hope they do as well as offer transparent windows with light inside of the buildings so that we get our city lights that way instead of color spots on the ground.

Just think, perhaps in a few years instead of using Google Earth we'll be using a real-life aerial photo and comparing that to an FS screenshot.Well, for that matter it could be done right now. I'm sure with appropriate weather, it would be uncanny...Rhett

I'm wondering if this set up is going to be for the rest of the world not just for the USA.Stelios
