TITAN RTX memory usage for VR

Featured Replies

Wondering if anyone has tried the titan RTX beast in VR.

Looking at the reviews comparing my current 2080ti card to the Titan RTX there’s very little FPS difference, however that extra VRAM (24g) would significantly help in VR... wouldn’t it?

I haven’t checked how much VRAM headroom I have left when in flight using my Pimax 8k, but since reading Rob A’s recent thread on “So you think you have enough VRAM” makes me wonder if VR is a VRAM eater.

I’m away from home for a week so can’t power up the SIM to check the VRAM so hopefully someone has experimented.

thx

I don't think it would make very much difference, honestly. Of all the things Vr is constrained by, Ram is probably the least of them.

On the other hand, all or our legacy sims seem to love more ram so......

I guess somebody has to try it out, and tell us all what happens!

Actually my 1080ti's 11gb of vram is maxed out with 2x msaa and shadow draw distance on medium with lots of dynamic lighting.  There is no such thing as too much vram for VR.  Obviously its a huge premium to pay for extra VRAM which is why I am sticking with my 1080ti for the time being.  If money was no concern I would jump at the chance to own an RTX titan for P3D VR.

I suspect that its the sim swallowing that much ram, irregardless of it being in VR or not. Rob had a recent video out showing x-plane 11's insatiable ram usage.

I don't think P3D is much different.

I dont think so, turning off VR brings my vram usage down to 55%.  If I increase shadows or AA above my current settings in vr my vram usage goes to above 90% and that's when i start to get a pronounced loss of FPS and increase in stuttering. Its definitely much higher in VR.

Thanks for your comments. You all got me interested in checking my VRAM when I get home.

I do bump up the SS in SteamVR settings as high as I can go before things begin to stutter just to get a clearer image.

Will be interesting to see if the stutters are caused by maxed out VRAM.
