January 6, 200620 yr I was just curious as to how many polys it took, depending on the runway length. Sounds like you got it good though :-) Jeff D. January 6, 200620 yr Scenery Germany has some airfields with sloped runways, all grass strips on top of hills etc with rises and slopes. As said it can be done but I think the issue of them not appearing at more airports is because of the fact that AI traffic can't use these airports as AFCAD files have been designed for flat taxiways and runways. I know someone was working on Afcads that followed the terrain but I think they came to a dead end but I am sure that someone will correct me if otherwise. It was something I read about on a message board somewhere. Sounded exciting but even if it would have been done it would opened up lots of issues I am sure, like mesh compatibility etc, It is hard to tell whether this version of FS will have sloping runways. At the moment I do not see any pictures of airports with sloping runways so three things come to mind.1. IT wont have sloping runways which is why they haven't posted any pictures of airports or airfields.2. It will, but they want to keep it from us as a suprise till nearer release time.3. They are still working on the airfields and airports and that is why there are no pictures yet.
January 6, 200620 yr Author >But, for the entire world's 20,000+ airports? Not a>chance...Nobody was talking aboyut 20000 airports. Tiny percentage of them have any slopes worth talking about. There is another aspect of this story - puerly esthetical. When you apply some higher resolution mesh you often end up with weird looking edges of the airport - since runway are forced flat yet the terrain below it modulates. (I have this situation at KSEA and with 3-rd party 75-m mesh). So it would be neat if MS provided as with the tool so we could force the runway to adhere to the terrain (and not the opposite). You could do it manually at every airport of your choice. This would automatically give us sloped runways.
