Navajo Version2

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I notice two planes released today, the Saab340 by FFS and the Piper Navajo version 2 by FSD. Man, now I have to decide with one or the other, or both??? Anyway, has anyone picked up V2 of the Navajo? I owned the first model since way back, but haven't reinstalled it on my new system yet. From the pics on the website, The VC looks nicer than before? I also notice it mentions DX sound suite. I wonder if the sounds have been reworked using DirectX similar to what the Majestic Dash 8 uses instead of the internal FS9 method? Anyway, if anyone would like to share, that would be awsome. Thanks so much.

I just bought the Navajo version 2, but I can't get it to install into FSX so far, which is odd considering they advertise it FSX compatible. I guess they didn't count on FSX beta testers running to get it :(

Hey David, I do hope you get it sorted out. When you do get her up and running, could you post back? I will be using it in FS9, but I am curious if there is a big difference in the two versions. I am glad they are offering it at a discount for exsisting users. Thanks.

I went and got the Navajo V2. A great deal. Two planes now (I always wanted a regular Navajo instead of just the one with the winglets). Much better frames too. There are some sounds that were not there before, like the sound of the fans when you turn on the heat and AC. Have not discovered the others yet, but I don't know how many more sounds one would find in a Navajo. Gotta go start flipping switches I guess.

That would probably cause some ruffled feathers at Microsoft.

FSD responded to my email, understandably they can't support FSX installs as of yet, thought I'd try anyways but I guess I'll patiently wait then.

Just a clarification - my first post is meant to come across in a joking way. I in no way question FSD's capabilities, nor their claims of FSX compatibility.

I'd be interested in folks impressions too. I browsed the web site and am tempted. I have three FSD planes already, but I only use one any more. After almost a year of flying other ac, I recently retrofitted the Aerostar 700 with Reality XP T guages and gave it a second look. The new smoother gauges made it much more flyable and I've been enjoying it. FSD takes a lot of heat for their impatient and dismissive support at their support forum, but I like their ac flight dynamics and attention to detail. When I was flying their planes more regularly a year or so ago, I posted every so often in their forum for help and at times got some of their (im)famous sarcastic responses. But I posted there again recently with a couple questions and they were responsive and even friendly. I've been spoiled by developers like Aeroworx, but I'm willing to give them a second look and the Navajo really looks nice.

I really enjoyed the Navajo version 1, more than the Aerostar actually. It handles very well and is just the type of aircraft for the type of flying I enjoy.

Thanks for the tip on the upgrade. I just purchased it. Purchase and install went smooth as glass. Took a short flight in the regular Navajo and it's a sweet flyer.I'd been neglecting version 1.0 since getting the Aeroworx King Air and the Cessna Conquest but I think I'll be putting some time in with the new versions.Jim

I purchased and downloaded the Navajo v2 upgrade this morning. They added a "regular" PA-31-350 to the package in addition to the Colemill Panther conversion. Framerates are definitely improved, and the VC got a needed workover. VC gauge refresh is now extremely smooth, and the VC and 2D panel switches sync up a lot better on the overhead. The sounds didn't really sound much different to me.I've always liked the FSD Navajo a lot, and with the new VC, it's going back to the front of the line for my GA flying in FS2004. For US$18, I think it's very much worth it, especially since that gets you FSX compatibility, an extra model, and some pretty significant improvements.Lewis "Moose" GregoryRichmond, Virginia

Thanks for your replies everyone. Now that I read them, plus the last response by Lewis, I am going to get the new version. I liked the older version, but it was hard on performance for me, so I put it back in the hangar. Thanks again.

Have they upgraded the textures in the vc - especially the awful pilots' seats?! I like just about everything else.

>Have they upgraded the textures in the vc - especially the>awful pilots' seats?! I like just about everything else.I am not sure the VC textures were improved because I had removed the V1 Navajo and I can't remember. Plus it is not something I pay close attention too. The textures are not the sharpest on the market and not Realair quality but more that adequate to fly the plane. :)The most important issues for me are VC frame rates and a gauge update rates. The instruments appear to be as fluid in the VC as the 2d. My frame rates are terrific and I am very pleased. FSD's Porter and now the Navajo have exceptionally smooth VC gauge and high frame rates allowing me to hand fly the planes easily. I am very satisfied with version 2. Bob...

Just got the version 2 earlier tonite.. I agree, it is worth the $$. better vc frames, etc.. But--There are definitely some lighting issues. If you check out the FSD support forum there are a couple threadfs going on it.. fsd guys are aware of the problems.. so I'm sure they will correct it..
