Silly question...

Flying VR (Oculus s with a saitek proflight x52 joystick and throttle) you have one hand on the joystick and the other on the throttle...how do you work the instrument panel? Do you pick up the touch pad or use the mouse? Is it hard because you can't see the mouse? I have only flown VR using virtual controls so curious how it's done.

I use a yoke and a throttle quadrant with P3D, as I mainly fly airliners on that platform. My mouse sits right beside my throttle quadrant on my desk.  I usually don't have any problems finding it while wearing my HMD.  It becomes muscle memory. Same for DCS. I use my Thrustmaster HOTAS throttle and stick and my mouse is in the same spot on my desk, this time in front of my stick. Again muscle memory kicks in. I do have the mouse settings set to "on" in the VR settings. I mainly fly the F/A-18 and the new F16 and control everything from inside the clickable cockpit.  Never did use any of the Flaming Cliffs planes, (non clickable cockpit) as I cannot remember all the keyboard combinations that you need to know in order to control those plane. Plus, It would also be difficult to control in VR, using the keyboard like that.

I don't use any VR controllers when using my simulators. I like the feel of using the actual hardware for control surfaces and throttle and I find it quicker and more accurate to use the mouse for buttons and switches.

I have gotten so immersed in the VR, that I have occasionally reached up to flip a switch before realizing its not really there. 😉

In the DCS Options menu there's a listing called"UI Layer" Open that and you'll see different options to use in VR....I.e Mouse click,Zoom etc ,You can map these commands to your HOTAS to use in VR.

PS. Does the X52 still have a mouse button built in?

cool thanks...not sure about the x52...I had one before and it was awesome. I sold it when I built my GA home cockpit and went to a full yoke.

This time I got the x52 pro.

Do you think this VR thing could catch on?

I really hope the Developers of MS Flight Simulator 2020 think so? 😁
