But as Asobo claimed FS2020 will be VFR ready, I can't imagine not using this very common landmark. Power lines, what-ever-tower (obstacle), windturbine... the list of VFR landmark is long. October 29, 20196 yr Well, I don't think we will get it. Often, the transport and distribution network is a strategic data, so unlikely to be open source and it's about the most difficult thing to render using photogrammetry. Edit : On OSM outdoor map, you can see some transport lines, so we might get some Edited October 29, 20196 yr by bendead

It shouldn't be that difficult to add as an layer on top of the MSFS scenery data. One potential problem would be seeing 2D images of transmission towers in the ortho image underneath the 3D autogen towers. Maybe Azure AI can handle that, as an automated function where if the OSM data exists for major power lines, the same area underneath is automatically scrubbed and filled with nearby texture. October 29, 20196 yr I hope so. One of my favorite lessons for dead stick landings was how deadly and sneaky power lines could be. ESPECIALLY at night; they'll single handedly make or break your emergency landing. Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory. The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune. There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you. It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

So it's not just eye candy for increased immersion -- it's a real-world aviation hazard that should ideally be included in every flight sim. Although, it probably does cause a CPU hit if the lines are calculated with collision boxes. They don't trigger a collision in X-Plane, probably for performance reasons.
