ultimate night enviroment and world enviroment

Featured Replies

saw these two add ons and thought they looked interesting especially the ultimate night. the cities at night looked really nice and wondered how both might work and look together. they're also not supposed to have any effect on frame rates. would like to hear about that too. thanks, william

GE Pro II has been released with customisable night textures, as well as all the other goodies with day and sky textures that can be adjusted according to the weather where you intend to fly. Get that instead!Allcott

Yes I tried the new GEPro II night textures and they are OK if you also have the UT 3D lights. Unfortunately the UT 3D lights are not available for areas outside North America and Europe. For the rest of the world I have reverted to using freeware night textures by Adam Mills but am still considering Ultimate Night Environment and would be interested in any views on these textures.Bruceb

Hi there, one thing a lot of people tend to foget is that night textures overlay the base textures. What this means is at dusk/dawn (transitions) that 3rd party night textures don't line up with the default base textures as a generalization. What it means in simple terms is that autogen buildings won't line up and streets, farms, fields etc all won't lilne up. Even at the darkest night time conditions the roads and autogen won't line up.The important thing to remember is that the default FS9 night textures do line up.It's sad to see but a lot of 3rd party ground textures just don't observe these rules and publish ground textures that effectively break FS9 and they don't tell you where it fails. So one thing to check first is do the Ultimate night textures line up with the default base FS9 night textures and autogen. If this is true they night textures won't line up with FSscene, BEV or GE.I'm not sure if BEV has aligned night textures with autogen to match or if FSscene does?

thanks for the info guys. i hope everything lines up because i just ordered both a few hours ago. i don't have any other scenery except the default so hopefully everything will work. i might make a comment after i get it up and running. thanks again, william

Hi PeterFor me the having night textures line up with autogen is less important than having an overall realistic night texture environment - something that seems to be very difficult to achieve in FS. I have tried to compare screenshots of Ultimate Night Environment with sreenshots of the same location using GEPro 2 and they look quite similar (which is why I haven't got Ultimate Night Environment yet) so I suspect these textures do line up with autogen. But again I would be interested in the views of any who have this addon.Bruceb

HelloI have both productsIMHO the night textures in GEpro2 are much better than Night Environment Pro.NEP is just a mass of orange, looks really strange.

in a flight sim magazine i have there is an write up on ultimate night enviroment and there's one photo that sort of looks like what you discribed. all the photos i've seen on the internet of it look pretty good. i'm wondering if the resolution might need to be on the higher side. was it pretty easy to install? william

just to clarify... i'm talking about ultimate night enviroment 2007, the latest version. maybe there's an earlier version and this is the updated one, hopefully better. william

It is easy to install, no hits on frames, and it also adds night lighting to default FS 9 airports. Over on simmarket.com a number of reviews can be found. Look at the screenshots, then make up your own mind.

HelloI am running at 1600x1200 on a 20" LCD maybe they look better on a CRT monitorAs you will see for your self if you get both, GE pro2 night textures are much nicer and you can choose different colors of night lighting or colorize to your own taste.UNE lasted less than a day on this system. One other problem is that it installs easily enough but will not uninstall cleanly, so back up your texture folder before you try it.If you do a search here you will find many more opinions on UNE proI also had the earlier freeware UNE textures and the were IMHO better than the UNE Pro version.
