November 5, 20196 yr Had to completely reformat my C drive and reinstall windows due to a corrupted Windows 10 update that was preventing my PC from restarting. I had originally installed P3D on my D drive but for some reason the sim is no longer in installed programs and the icon does not work. Seems like I have to reinstall P3D again but is there a way to install it so that I don’t have to redo the dance to reinstall my numerous addons? Is reinstalling it to my D drive P3D folder recommended or should I just start from scratch? Thanks! Chris Camp
November 5, 20196 yr Author Should I just reinstall the Client and Scenery .exe’s or is it best to completely reinstall? Really trying no to have to reinstall all my addons from scratch if I can help it! Chris Camp

During the install, P3D writes license key information into the WIndows registry--since that's gone after a Windows reinstallation, P3D won't run. Furthermore, your license is still registered as "in use" on the LM servers, so it won't let you reinstall until you contact LM with a license reactivation request and they reset the license on their activation server. It typically takes them 1-2 business days to act on that request. On the topic of keeping your installed add-ons, if you don't have a backup of the P3D add-ons subfolder from the Documents folder or the other config files in Users and ProgramData on the Windows drive, you're most likely going to need to reinstall everything. Lots of add-ons store license keys and program settings in the registry, so those will need reinstalled even if you still have the config files. There are also a few addons--PMDG, FSLabs, and FSPS come immediately to mind--that may also need license keys reactivated by the developer prior to reinstallation. Bottom line, it'll be faster and less pain rebuilding from scratch rather than trying to piece together the remnants of the previous setup. For future reference, regular system backups can save you all this butt pain. The LorbySI P3D Addon Manager has a nice one-click backup feature that saves all the P3D config files, allowing an relatively easy recovery from a problem without having to completely rebuild Rome. If it's just one airport, it sure sounds like overkill to reinstall P3D in its entirety. You can uninstall and reinstall just the scenery component of P3D (see the topic in the P3D tips and tricks subforum), in which case you'll have to reinstall FTX Global (and perhaps GSX2 as well). Keep in mind that uninstalling P3D or its components does *not* remove the add-on sceneries themselves, so if something is boogered-up in there it'll still be there in the same state after reinstalling P3D. To do a completely clean reinstall, you'll need to also follow the guidance in LM's P3D forum about removing generated files to ensure that nothing is left behind from the previous install. I have some airport scenery displaying buildings floating in the air and causing some stutters I think this is caused by some files left over from a airport I removed so I will do a complete reinstall after removing the generated files, luckily I don’t have a lot of addons only what I mention in the above post so shouldn’t take me too long, thank you for the help. November 6, 20196 yr Objects floating in the air was a known issue due to a PBR scenery object rendering problem in P3D v4.4 through v4.5 HF1. HF2 addresses the issue. November 6, 20196 yr Hi I had the hf2 fix already installed, just finished a reinstall of p3d and now have no floating scenery also running nice and smooth again, don’t have much addons so didn’t take too long, as you said a bit of overkill but now back to normal. thanks for your help, jim thank you,Jim MSI A520M-A PRO,AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 8 Core, 16 Threads 4.1Ghz,Arctic Freezer 36 ARGB Black Edition CPU Cooler,MSI VENTUS 2X Nvidia RTX 4070 12GB Graphics Card,Corsair 32GB Vengeance LPX (2x16GB) 3200Mhz DDR4 Memory,Gigabyte UD750GM 750W Gold Rated Modular PSU,Kingston NV3 2TB NVME M.2 GEN 4 SSD.
