My humble wish list

Recommended Posts

A fully automated copilot system in which the copilot will be able to take over and perform all necessary procedures in the event that something would happen to the pilot.

These include before take off procedures in flight and also landing.

Full and comprehensive flight tutorials included in the sim which show step by step procedures on how to fly different types of aircraft.  With fore example how to perform ILS landings, how to take off with different types of aircraft and so on.  And please make it possible for these tutorials to be as clear and concise as possible with no overcomplicated language and terminology that only a rocket scientist could understand. (You know like more or less learn to fly for dummies)

An advanced section in the tutorials and also a much more simple section for those people who just want to grab a plane take off and enjoy their flight without overcomplicating things)

A lot of people really want to have the experience of flying a real airplane but because of their busy lives don’t have the time to learn all the intricacies and complicated details so they just want to grab a plane get in choose a destination and get flying…so if they could do just that in the new sim they would be happy.  And of course there is those other people like me who want it all to be as real as it gets!…so it would be great if the new sim would provide for both these kind of people.

In game camera views both internal and external.   Realistic camera views and movements for in the cockpit and also the cabin.  The possibility to have realistic head movements in the cockpit to look around just like with Track IR or maybe even better would be nice…so that we don’t need to by third party hardware.  Also for in the cabin so you can walk around and sit down like a passenger and have nice wing views.

Realistic external views with the possibility to walk around your aircraft and inspect it from all angles.

An in game replay and movie mode in which you can choose different camera angles to capture  your taxiing take offs and landings with realistic approach and take off camera views.

And yes I know that all these things are already included in the current sims…but I would expect them to be way more sophisticated in the new sim.

Realistic aircraft sounds that match their real life counterparts…and yes…I did see the soundscape episode and it looks impressive…but please developers…please keep working on the aircraft sounds and make them even better!…I remember in the past that I had to buy third party sound packs for aircraft because the default sounds were just horrific!…hopefully this will not have to be the case any more with the new sim.

I have seen the scenery so far for the world and it is nothing short of stunning…but I am afraid that a lot of parts of the world will be neglected and paid less attention to of course this also depends on Bing maps data etc…which I understand…but please developers do your best to give more attention to other areas of the world as best as you can…but so far you’re doing an excellent job!

I have also seen that the water looks overall stunning…please give more attention to water surrounding islands and coral reefs…I like to do a lot of vfr flying so I would enjoy low level flights around tropical islands with nice coral reefs and beautiful coast lines shores.

Realistic Atc chatter included for the cockpit with near close to human voices and not some robot type voices…also as you enter international air space the atc voice accent would change according to the location.

Also realistic communication between pilot and ground services like push back and so forth to make it all feel more immersive…yes they also already have all this currently but again…I expect it to be much more true to life in the new sim.

When you wish upon a star...

Well, hopefully we may get much of what you and everyone else here wants in a 2020 wish list.  To me, realistic ATC is near the top.  Some of the other stuff is just wonderful eye candy...

From what I've seen, ATC is on the top of the list very often. Hello Asobo! 🙂

Except for that, I'd wish for:

  • Being able to leave the airplane and do my preflight checks or manage my fleet in my own hangar.
  • Forward slip! Even in X-Plane I haven't seen a plane till now that handles that maneuver accurately!

Happy with MSFS 🙂

Don't know about x-plane, but there are quite a few high quality add-on aircraft for FSX/P3D which can slip in a realistic way.

That said, simulating uncoordinated flight should be even more realistic in MSFS of course!

So that it actually gets a significant drop in vertical speed when full rudder is applied? I don't use FSX / P3D, so that would be an interesting fact, as the flight model is argument #1 for X-Plane.

I suspect the change in IAS not to be modeled, which I can accept, but the aerodynamic behavior of such a basic maneuver should be.

Of course it does.

If you are talking about the 'wrong' IAS due to the disturbed airflow, that's not simulated, but the aerodynamic effects are all there. That's the beauty of FSX/P3D, you can finetune such items and e.g. spin/spin behavior much better in FSX/P3D than in x-plane. (Yes, I've designed flight models for all these sims)

Thanks mate.

I tried to discuss MSFS new flight model on a X-Plane related forum. I pointed out that collecting data instead of having it calculated by blade element theory may not be much inferior. Especially as X-Plane does only use this method for lifting surfaces. So if you argue that parametrical modeling is flawed (which I don't agree with), then consider that X-Plane also utilizes it for some parts and therefore is potentially just as flawed. But unfortunately they diverted the topic to something like me not having the mental capacity to understand or whatever. 😄

Anyhow, it should be possible to model it in X-Plane via drag parameters, yet all the GA aircraft that I forward slip, rarely gain any negative vertical speed.

I very much agree and I have similar thoughts with some different focus:

Co-Pilot is a great feature, and I believe it has much greater potentials for the next generation flight learning and enjoyments.

I like PilotsEYE flight documentry series very much. It’s such a pleasure watching those real pilots do the pre-flight preparations, taxiing, takeoff, approach and landing in such a professional way, exchange casual talks between them, and enjoy the magnificant view inside and outside the cockpit. It’s great enjoyment as well as learning all aspects of airliner flight.

Now can we have this in the new MSFS? Technology has so advanced that we already have photorealistic cockpit and scenery, then how about some lifelike virtual veteran pilots that fly the planes so that we can watch and learn all the way? Of course we can take over if we are sure about that enough.

All current flight simulations already have something like this. Well, sort of. It’s just some brief voiceover instruction which is not intuitive at all. I don’t like those flight lessons. They are not fun, and can be daunting or even traumatic for the newbies.

It’s time for new ways of learning. I am a GA flyer. I have always want to do airliners, but I don’t want to go through the heavy manuals and memorize all the switches. I’d like to learn it in a more relaxing way. I want to sit beside those AI pilots, watching them do this this time, and that that time, enjoying the view as I will.

And there are more possibilities. Those virtual AI pilots can appear in flight lessons, and they can also take part in missions. They can even lead the guided tour for those absolute lazy people who just want to watch the view, and I am sure there are a lot of such people. This will attract more general and casual players.

The biggest obstacle for the development of flight simulation has always being the small user base due to steep learning curve. Microsoft had already done quite some efforts to attract more interest from the general public, with mixed results, as shown from the failure of Microsoft Flight. The difficulty lies in how to make both ends meet: “serious” simmers VS casual players. Yet with more realistic graphics and more advanced AI we need to think about the next generation way of learning for the next generation flight simulation. The line between “serious” something and “casual” something will be more and more blurred. More general players will guarantee the long term benefit of the developer, and hence the benefit of the diehard simmer.

When I got the A2A Constellation I was wishing for a fully automated pilot so that I could play co-pilot and learn the aircraft the same way it was done in real life.  An automated pilot would allow someone to play full-time flight engineer as well without having to worry about flying the plane.  We've already got an automated flight engineer.
