Flight to St. Barts! MSFS who?!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This is a flight in the JustFlight 152 from St. Martin to St. Barts:

FlyTampa St. Martin to St. Barts

This is an area I fly in all the time, and I've made this flight in real life (Real-life flight to St. Barts). It is real-world, real-time weather, everything is automated through Environment Force and Sky Force - set it and forget it. This is why I'm so blasé about MSFS. My P3D setup is amazing and runs like a dream

Addons:

UTX Tropical America and Caribbean

Environment Force X

Sky Force X

FlyTampa St. Martin (which includes the destination airport/island, St. Barts)

JustFlight Cessna 152

The only thing I would say in relation to the comparison to FS 2020, is that we should bear in mind you've got Ultimate Terrain X -Tropical America and Caribbean (26 quid), Environment Force X (30 quid), Sky Force (32 quid) Fly Tampa St Maarten (24 quid), Just Flight C-152 (28 quid) and P3D (60/200 quid, depending on your version).

So that makes a grand total of 200 quid minimum for that, and I doubt that MS will be charging that for their sim unless they only want to sell five copies of it. Having said that it does undeniably look good, and besides which, I'm the last person to berate anyone for spending money on flight sims lol, because I daren't even think about how much I've spent on them over the years. 🤣

Personally, on that flight I'd have been inclined to go for a bit more altitude en route, based on the precautionary notion that the water ditching qualities of the 152 and other high-winged fixed gear aeroplanes, are not known for being great, so I'd want the capability to glide to land if the rubber band conked out. Of course in a sim, we don't have to worry about that.

It's a great vid though, I liked it. 😊

All valid points! I guess what I'm saying is that if MSFS turns out to require a supercomputer to run (which I think is going to be the case) or is prohibitive in some other way, I'll be just fine. For example, I am a real-world pilot who flies 150s and Cherokees. So if MSFS doesn't have either, at least at the outset, it may not be for me.

And about the altitudes, I totally agree. The weird thing is, that's what everyone does down there on these short island hops. In fact, I watched a guy on Flightradar24 go from SXM to St. Croix, which is about a 90-minute flight, at 1,000 feet. I think that's an extreme example, but I totally get what you're saying.

I'm on the same track. Lots of issues still unknown, being the computer min specs just one of them. Internet connectivity speed and caps will be another important issue to consider.

Yeah, Ed, definitely.

Well it looks good but I'd say the quality of the visual in the MSFS Videos (which I acknowledge are promo videos) is far far superior. You should get AIG AI manager (free ware or Donation ware). That default AI is a performance killer! 😁

Thanks for the suggestion. Not sure I follow. What does it do? I have UTLive for traffic. Would this be in addition to that?

OK, I saw World Travel Airlines and Orbit Airlines on the apron on your run up to take off. Unless they are in UTLive that is default AI which is know to be a bit of a resourse hog. I don't know if TrafficAircraft.bgl is used by UTLive but I doubt it. You could try moving it out of the Scenery/World/Scenery to your desktop and then run the sim. If you still see you UTLive AI and the default AI is gone then don't put it back. Depending on where your Airline traffic slider is, you might see a performance increase.

AIG AI manager (Alpha India Group) is a community that makes liveries and real world routes for AI traffic in P3D. It's a bit of learning curve to figure it out. (I only know the basics) but you get a lot more bang for your ghz with that than you do with the default AI. Can't comment on how it compares to UTLive.

If you are happy with things as they are then leave it alone. Going after improved performance is like going down a rabbit hole and the law of diminishing returns applies.

Anyway, I'm the last person in the world to get instructions from. 😁🤣
